{"id":3774,"date":"2023-03-02T07:08:39","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T07:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=3774"},"modified":"2023-03-02T07:08:39","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T07:08:39","slug":"70-year-old-bola-tinubu-wins-the-nigeria-presidential-election-as-the-opposition-party-denouncing-the-elections-claiming-lack-of-transparency-and-fairness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=3774","title":{"rendered":"70 year old Bola Tinubu wins the Nigeria Presidential election as the Opposition Party denouncing the elections claiming lack of transparency and fairness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>`By Atanas Walila, Nairobi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nigeria&#8217;s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares the ruling party&#8217;s candidate, Bola Tinubu as president-elect after emerging the winner of the 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>INEC said Tinubu garnered 8,794,726 votes, ahead of his main opponent Atiku Abubakar of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) who got 6,984,520 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Obi of the Labour Party(LP) collected 6,101,533 votes and forth position closed by Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigeria People&#8217;s Party(NNPP) with 1,496,687 votes.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nigerian electoral law, apart from leading in the number of votes, a candidate should get 25% of the votes in at least two-thirds of the 36 states and the federal capital Abuja, which Tinubu did.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition parties rejected the results saying that gargets used by INEC suffered multiple technical errors\u00a0 calling on its chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, to resign.<\/p>\n<p>They also blame INEC for failing to upload results from each polling unit to its website as promised before the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3776 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1200x-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state, promised to deal with Islamist revolutions in the Northeast, armed attacks, killings and extreme corruption that they say Buhari&#8217;s party has failed to stamp out.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu asked voters to elect him on his track record during his two terms as Lagos state governor which he reduced violent crime, improved the city&#8217;s traffic jams and cleaned up rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>At one point during campaigns, the 70-year-old&#8217;s competence was doubted by citizens after having insults in his speech and skipping several campaign events.<\/p>\n<p>A good number of Nigerians are contented with the results and are now looking forward to a better Nation in the government of President elect, Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>`By Atanas Walila, Nairobi Nigeria&#8217;s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares the ruling party&#8217;s candidate, Bola Tinubu as president-elect after emerging the winner of the 2023 presidential election.
