Spread of disinformation in Kenya\nespecially through social media has become a daily routine and this was mostly\nwitnessed during the Corona pandemic and the August election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Kenya Correspondents Association\ndisinformation spread on social media had a bad intention of misleading\nKenyans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “Disinformation has\ninjured communities starting from Covid 19 pandemic until now you will find out\nthat some cannot go for vaccination because of the kind of misinformation they\nhear. Some voters could not vote for the correct candidate because of\ndisinformation they were told about a particular candidate. There is a lot of\ndisinformation in Kenya not only in politics, even in agriculture especially on\nGMO and in communities.\u201d Said Janak<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman of Kenya Correspondents\nAssociation Mr. Oloo Janak said that there is a need to collaborate with the\ncommunity to end disinformation in the country. He also called upon the\njournalists to air verified news as they can easily be used to spread\ndisinformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cThis campaign to end\ndisinformation in Kenya is not for journalists alone, it is for the whole\ncommunity. Journalists should always be careful on what they air. I appeal to\njournalists from different media houses to follow media ethical rules of Media\nCouncil act 2013.\u201d Saud Janak<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Janak asked media houses to\nhave a long term arrangement when it comes to firing journalists to prepare\nthem psychologically. He urged media houses to always adhere to the law that is\nprotecting journalists as it is indicated in the international  labor\norganization. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSacking of journalist without\nproper following proper might cause harm to journalists like psychological\ntorture to those journalist who have families to feed. Some are even sacked\nthrough text messages and are send memos that is nit the proper channel.\u201d Said\nJanak<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has also urged Kenyans to be\ncareful this festive season as he advised drivers to be extra careful and\nfollow traffic rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cI appeal to public service\ndrivers to be careful of different people. Some are family  bread winners\nand Kenyans also exercise caution when travelling in any form of public\ntransport and avoid  drinking recklessly.\u201d He said  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Finance officer and\ncoordinator Rose Mwangi advised parents to spend considerably, putting in mind\nthat schools will be open soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cParents should make wise\ndecisions when spending money this festive season as soon as school opens.\nShould make wise financial decisions and I encourage women to have a strong\npersonality when making financial decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
