{"id":3201,"date":"2022-12-02T06:25:48","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T06:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=3201"},"modified":"2022-12-02T06:25:48","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T06:25:48","slug":"governor-lusaka-over-1000-new-hiv-infections-reported-annually-in-bungoma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=3201","title":{"rendered":"Governor Lusaka:  Over 1,000 new HIV infections reported annually in Bungoma"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><code>By Micah Sali, Bungoma <\/code><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bungoma County remains a high-risk\nlocation in the spread of HIV\/AIDS, mainly due to the fact that is a major\ntransit point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has\nrevealed that Kanduyi and Webuye West are&nbsp;among the most affected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Available Statistics point to\na worrying trend in the spread of the disease with&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pic-hiv.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pic-hiv.jpg 960w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pic-hiv-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pic-hiv-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pic-hiv-696x348.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">30,644 people reported to be living\nwith HIV\/AIDS in the County,&#8221; Lusaka revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lusaka added that close to 1,000 new\ninfections reported annually with the growing laxity in the fight against\nHIV\/AIDS blamed on the shift in focus to the fight against COVID 19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking during an event to mark the\nWorld Aids day at Kibabii University on Thursday, Lusaka stated that too much\nfocus should be put in the fight against HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A Wake Up Call for all of us\nto focus on the Practical Solutions to alleviate Inequality and put an end to\nlife threatening disease,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"542\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Screenshot_20221201-123030.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Screenshot_20221201-123030.jpg 720w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Screenshot_20221201-123030-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Screenshot_20221201-123030-696x524.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that the transmission rate\nfrom Mother to Child is worryingly higher than the acceptable target rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stated that Bungoma registered 9 per cent, which is above the average of 5 per cent rate. HIV\/TB Co-Infections stand at 6,130.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lusaka said that the key Drivers of\nthe Spread in Bungoma include the presence of Truck Drivers on the Northern\nCorridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed out that the main\nflashpoints other than Kanduyi and Bukembe others include &#8211; Mariakani,\nMlolongo, Salgaa and Malaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Liberal nature of the younger\ngeneration, who indulge regularly in unprotected sex<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inter-Generational sex and the\nculture of \u201cSponsors\u201d, said Lusaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He attributed low-Uptake of\nself-testing, which points to possibility of a higher number of untreated cases\nand non-Adherence to the treatment regime for some of those infected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"708\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG-20221124-WA0011.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG-20221124-WA0011.jpg 708w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG-20221124-WA0011-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG-20221124-WA0011-696x983.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The County CEO encouraged everyone\nto know their status; HIV\/AIDS is not a death sentence.
