Is it too early to start checking the manifestos? Or is it too early to\nhave expectations? Expectations legitimately created to sway the \u2018hustler\u2019 into\nvoting this way and not any other way. Is it too early to count down the 100\ndays? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the current regime came into power, there were chants all over,\n\u2018Freedom is coming\u2019<\/em>, and when they\ncame to power, the streets were filled with \u2018Freedom is here\u2019<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is the incumbent fighting to feed its ego or to feed the hustler? The reasons for overturning most of these decisions are unknown to us, and we shall not preempt. However, the new directives have proven to be doing more harm than good. <\/code><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Among the first things that the sitting government did was to overturn\na list-long of some things done by the previous government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Then begs the question, are we\nfighting against the previous regime or are we fighting against graft,\ninsecurity, poverty, name it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Is the incumbent fighting to\nfeed its ego or to feed the hustler? The reasons for overturning most of these\ndecisions are unknown to us, and we shall not preempt. However, the new\ndirectives have proven to be doing more harm than good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take for instance, the dismantling of the DCI\u2019s Flying Squad; barely a\nmonth later, thugs, robbers, hooligans are having a free run in our streets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have seen rising cases of robbery with violence recently; the very\npeople that the flying squad was trying to counter, not to assume that they\nwere entirely angels themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What freedom then did we expect or ought we to have expected? Just like in law, there is what the law is and what the law ought to be. In this case, I would say that the freedom we expected was that which would ease the economic hardships of the \u2018hustler\u2019 so to speak. <\/code><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This alone has proven that there is a reason why systems are in place\nand until we do away with them, we shall never quite understand this reason\/s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 We ought not to forget that a\nstate is not defined by how strong or powerful the men or women are, but by the\nstrong systems put in place to create law and order, for which order propagates\nproductivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What freedom then did we expect or ought we to have expected? Just like\nin law, there is what the law is and what the law ought to be. In this case, I\nwould say that the freedom we expected was that which would ease the economic\nhardships of the \u2018hustler\u2019 so to speak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, and so far, the only freedom we are witnessing is that of\nallies getting their charges dropped here and others getting positions there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I must note, it is not a new phenomenon to have one\u2019s charges dropped\nfor lack of sufficient proof; but having charges of various politicians dropped\nat the same time without really furnishing reasonable reasons definitely calls\nfor a lot of questions. But we leave it at that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over two months later, no much of a change is visible. The price of flour was expected to drop within the first 100 days, now we wait for a year later. <\/code><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Much of the things the sitting government has done and the decision\noverturned so far have been met by some malcontent voices among unhappy\nindividuals who think the government is in blatant disregard of the work\npreviously done, disregard of the law and at the very least, that their\nworkability is being grossly interfered with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back to expectations, Governor Sakaja assured the city dwellers that it will take barely a month to clear the garbage sitting all over the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there a less offensive word for \u2018roadside declarations\u2019? They sure\nseem like examples of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is only reasonable for politicians to at least manage people\u2019s\nexpectations especially during campaigns. Some manifestos are clearly utopic\nprima facie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assuming that they did not do a background check on how to manage a ward,\nconstituency, county and the country at large, then it is prudent that they do\nthat before fixing surreal ideas in their manifestos, to avoid the second hand\nembarrassment that comes when you realize that management is not a matter of\n\u2018Do this, do that, Now!\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These roadside declarations should be better left in the dustbins, lest they haunt and ruin us. In the words of David Ndii \u201cThis is how Moi ruined public institutions, one roadside declaration at a time.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(From his article, The Era of Roadside Policy Declarations is Back<\/em>). I would submit that politicians should at the very least be realistic with their promises. We still are banking hope on the government to deliver on its promises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
