{"id":2934,"date":"2022-09-22T11:37:50","date_gmt":"2022-09-22T11:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=2934"},"modified":"2022-09-22T11:37:50","modified_gmt":"2022-09-22T11:37:50","slug":"james-namatsi-elected-as-the-new-county-speaker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=2934","title":{"rendered":"James Namatsi Elected as the new County Speaker"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><code>Dennis Avokoywa\/ Seliphar Musungu, Kakamega <\/code><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The newly sworn in Kakamega county Mcas on September\n21, voted in James Namatsi as their new county speaker taking over from Morris\nBuluma who served as the speaker of the county assembly since the start of\ndevolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 89 Mcas took part in the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Namatsi was voted in as the new speaker in the first\nround after garnering 60 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/307084347_6137652979582511_637484581989834112_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2937\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/307084347_6137652979582511_637484581989834112_n.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/307084347_6137652979582511_637484581989834112_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/307084347_6137652979582511_637484581989834112_n-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/307084347_6137652979582511_637484581989834112_n-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption><code><strong>James Wanzala Namatsi, the second Speaker of Kakamega County Assembly with former speaker Morris Buluma \/PHOTO County splash news <\/strong><\/code><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The seat was being eyed by 10 candidates including\nex shinyalu mp Justus Kizito, former Kakamega senatorial candidate Brian\nLishenga who were dismissed on allegations of failing to meet the required\nstandards before vying for the sit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 3 candidates who made it to the finals were\nJames Namatsi, Kennedy Kilwake and Morris Buluma who garnered 60, 26 and 3\nvotes respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his acceptance speech, Namatsi vowed to closely\nwork with the MCA&#8217;s for the well-being of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><code><strong>\"I will closely work with the entire leadership to ensure our resources are well managed to the advantage of our people,\" He said.<\/strong><\/code><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He however called out to the MCA&#8217;s to put aside\ntheir political differences and concentrate on what they were entrusted to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Let&#8217;s put our hands together to embrace a\npositive change,&#8221; He added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Namatsi resigned as a lawyer before eyeing for the\nseat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also promised to harmonize the house to avoid\nwrangles in the assembly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bernard Shitiabai was elected as the deputy speaker\nafter garnering 61. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shitiabai who is Isukha West Member of Parliament\nemerged the winner from his close opponent who garnered 27 votes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dennis Avokoywa\/ Seliphar Musungu, Kakamega The newly sworn in Kakamega county Mcas on September 21, voted in James Namatsi as their new county speaker taking over from Morris Buluma who served as the speaker of the county assembly since the start of devolution.
