Our immediate attempt to\nestablish the source of the smell was difficult before we realized flies were\nall over this house, &#8221; said Josephine Nawire, the suspect&#8217;s neighbor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"402\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0015.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0015.jpg 720w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0015-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0015-696x389.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><strong><code>The deceased body was kept in this house<\/code><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A rotting body oozing worms\nwas lying on the bed, a sign he had passed away a long time ago,&#8221; Added\nNawire after curious residents broke into Shamim&#8217;s house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the area residents, the\nself-proclaimed god and his servant had moved into the village a few months\nago. The duo lived a secret life never associating with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In what was termed as an act of\nself-defense before being taken to Kakamega police station, Shamim admitted to\nliving with the dead body, saying that he was his god and had been ordered to\nbe locked inside the room for several days to pray for the upcoming general\nelections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Out of the required 14 days, 9\nwere over, he had earlier warned me against opening the door before the said\ndays were over&#8221;, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"283\" height=\"398\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0016.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2646\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0016.jpg 283w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG-20220729-WA0016-213x300.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simon Aketch, the area chief\nconfirmed the incident requesting the residents to be calm as investigations\nover the issue were launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The suspect used the adjacent\nroom while the victim&#8217;s body was in the other room, she claimed not to be aware\nof the rotting smell, and police from Kakamega central station have started an\ninvestigation,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Kenyan laws,\nimmediately after a person dies while at home, those close to the body are\nrequired to report the incident to a nearby administration who will inform the\nhealth department and fasten legal proceedings of handling the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ends<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Seliphar Musungu, Kakamega Out of the required 14 days, 9 were over, he had earlier warned me against opening the door before the said days were over Police in Kakamega have detained a middle-aged woman on allegations of living with the body of a dead person contrary to the law.
