{"id":2573,"date":"2022-06-09T15:55:18","date_gmt":"2022-06-09T15:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=2573"},"modified":"2022-06-09T15:55:18","modified_gmt":"2022-06-09T15:55:18","slug":"why-kakamega-governorship-race-is-a-match-between-oparanya-malala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=2573","title":{"rendered":"Why Kakamega governorship race is a match between Oparanya and Malala"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><code>Kakamega<\/code><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><code>By Boniface Chachula<\/code><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kakamega governorship race has narrowed down to a battle of three\ncandidates pitting Senator Cleophas Malala, former Kenya Electricity\nTransmission Company(Ketraco) managing director Fernandes Barasa and Metropol\nCEO Sammy Omukoko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three have since been cleared by the Independent Electoral and\nBoundaries Commission (IEBC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have now hit the ground running to solidify their support base ahead of\nthe August 9 polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya-1-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption><strong><code>Governor Wycliffe Oparanya<\/code><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lugari MP Ayub Savula was in the race but shelved his ambitions to deputise\nMr Barasa while area Deputy Governor after being shortchanged twice in ODM and\nDAP-K, he decided to quit the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is one of the toughest contests we shall witness ahead of the August 9\npolls. Each one of the is out to prove that he is\nsuperior to the other. Oparanya will use all means to ensure Barasa wins but he\nshould not underrate Malala\u2019s wave in the county,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barasa will flying the ODM flag under the Azimio la Umoja coalition &nbsp;&nbsp;while Malala is flying the ANC flag under the\nKenya Kwanza coalition.
