The 100m sensational sprinter Ferdinand\nOmanyala has been named as the 2021 Sportsman of the Year at a ceremony that\nwas held on Tuesday night at Bukhungu stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, double Olympic 1500m\nrecord holder Faith Kipyegon emerged as the 2021 Sportswoman of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Toky0 2020 Paralympics bronze\nwinner Nancy Chelangat won the  Sportswoman\nliving with disability award while Simon Kibai \ngot the Sportsman of the Year award for Persons Living with Disability\nin the men category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other awards went to  Heriston Wanyonyi (Most Promising Boy),  Teresia Muthoni ( Most Promising Girl), Sports\nTeam Men of the Year ( Kenya 7s), Sports Team Women of the Year (Vihiga Queens)\n, Coach of the Year (Charlse Okere -Vihiga Queens) and the Hall of Fame  award went to Esther Ouna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLast year was a great year for me\nand this year (2022), I will do more exploits,\u201d said Mr Omanyala after scooping\nthe Sportsman of the year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omanyala added : \u201cI have been\nwatching the Soya awards on TV for the last three years but today, am be\nwatched across the country. I will work hard to win more titles this year,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Kipyegon, double Olympic 1500m\nchampion said she was grateful to God after being named the Sportswoman of the\nyear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the first Soya award I am\nwinning and its very encouraging. In 2012, I was named the best promising girl\nin athletics and 10 years later, I am the sportswoman of the year,\u201d said\nKipyegon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eliud Kipchoge who received the recognition award said that 2020 was a challenging year for most athletes due to Covid19 but they bounced back to action in high spirits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Kipchoge said they had to content\nwith training indoors, having to be vaccinated anytime they were flying out of\nthe country, got isolated and quarantined for some days before participating in\nany games like the Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fete was graced by Kakamega\nDeputy Governor Prof Philip Kutima, Dr Paul Tergat (Soya Awards founder),\nNominated Senator Naomi Shiyonga, Josephta  Mukobe, the <\/em>Principal\nSecretary, State Department for Culture and Heritage and Soya Chairman Chris\nMbaisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenyan retired  international\nfootball maestro Dennis Oliech was also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
