{"id":223,"date":"2020-01-12T12:34:28","date_gmt":"2020-01-12T12:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=223"},"modified":"2020-01-12T12:34:28","modified_gmt":"2020-01-12T12:34:28","slug":"needy-students-benefit-from-bungoma-liberation-bursary-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=223","title":{"rendered":"Needy students benefit from Bungoma Liberation bursary fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over 100 needy students set to join form one next week\nacross Bungoma County have benefitted from Sh500,000 bursaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fees assistance is courtesy of Bungoma Liberation\nbursary scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BL patron Zack Barasa says that he came to the rescue of the\nneedy students after receiving overwhelming calls for his support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barasa said that he decided use his small resources to cater\nfor their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Am not rich but due to overwhelming calls, I decided\nto use the resources God has helped me with to help bright but needy students\njoin secondary schools,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/78381511-e6f9-4178-bb06-2319b4b2f8d4\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called on other stakeholders including NGO&#8217;s, business people\nand individuals to come on board and rescue bright but needy children who may\nmiss joining secondary schools due to lack of school fees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event took place at Bungoma Airstrip on January 11, 2020\nwhere he faulted Bungoma county government on the recent launched governor&#8217;s\nscholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Majority of bright and needy students who are supposed\nto join secondary schools were left out while those of well to do were picked\nto benefit from the kitty due to nepotism and favouritism, we want this trend\nchanged,&#8221; said Barasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He castigated the devolved unit for looking down upon needy\nstudents and using the scholarships to benefit their cronies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;As Bungoma Liberation, we won&#8217;t keep quite when the\nmoney meant to benefit poor is diverted to benefit students from well to do\nfamilies, this is the corruption we are fighting, let the county boss come out\nand defend himself,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>&#8220;My daughter was almost missing out of school, I had no money for fees, I thank Barasa for coming on time, she will now be able to join his dream school which is cardinal Otunga girls, Kibabii,&#8221; said Wanjala.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His sentiments were echoed by a human rights activist Moses\nLukoye who noted that the kind gesture by Mr. Barasa should be emulated by\nother stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This is the way to go, I laud Barasa for this gesture,\nlet the beneficiaries use this opportunity to study hard and later benefit in\nlife,&#8221; said Lukoye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the guardian Patrick Wanjala said that Barasa was God\nsent and appreciated his kind gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;My daughter was almost missing out of school, I had no\nmoney for fees, I thank Barasa for coming on time, she will now be able to join\nhis dream school which is cardinal Otunga girls, Kibabii,&#8221; said Wanjala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ends<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 100 needy students set to join form one next week across Bungoma County have benefitted from Sh500,000 bursaries.
