Once an academic powerhouse,Chesamisi\nHigh school in Bungoma county has been trending all for negative happenings and\nshrinking academically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A litany of strikes and fire incidents\ndealt a big blow to the school growth. The\nschool has been in the doldrums for the last three years,squeezing itself in\nthe unenviable list of sleeping giants from western region and being in the\nannals of history  as giant sports and\nacademic school in Bungoma county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past,Chesamisi high school was\na dream school and used to rival two national\nschools in the region including Lugulu Girls High School and Friends school\nKamusinga among other high performing schools in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school was also\nknown for strong performance in co-curricular and serves as a centre for\nbenchmarking in the region in drama, dance and play to national where\nthey have been emerging in the winning categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher Serem, a\nno non sense eight month old posted school principal observes that the school\nis on its path to recovery and reclaim its lost glory.The Buffalo,as it used to\nbe referred then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr.Serem who has sat at the helm of\nthe school administration for eight months now, a period within which the\ninstitution has undergone a meteoric rise in both management and academic\nperformance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBefore I took over\nthis school was in the dark and the journey to reclaim the academic powerhouse\nstatus has just begun,we are determine to take the school to national heights\nwhere it belong\u201dthe soft spoken principal told this writer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During last year Kcse\nresults,the school defied all odds to produce 164 students with a direct entry\nto universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An impressive\nperformance was registered following an improvement; from 5.8(2019) to\n6.2(2020) mean score. \u201cThis is  history\nmade in Chesamisi Boys and this clearly shows that the school is going back to\nwhat it used to be then\u201dobserved the principal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked  about his vision while\nstill the school principal,said he intend the school to produce brilliant,\ndisciplined and God-fearing students. The culture of excelling every year\npushes the next class to do even better because no one wants to be a let-down\nand that makes management easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goals may sound lefty but that is where every journey begins\nwith a dream and the future truly belongs to those who believe in the beauty of\ntheir dreams\u201d said the Principal who has won confidence of teachers, parents\nand students proving his mettle as an accomplished Principal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr.Serem  has an inspirational story. When he took over\nthe school late last year, moral of teachers and students had dropped to an\nall-time low with a poor academic record since the schools structural\nfacilities had won out and with few toilets on the school compound had sunk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an equivocal co-operation from\nparents and the community Mr.Serem refused to sit pretty and watch as the ghost\nof poverty presided over the pursuit for success at Chesamisi Boys High  school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe understand\nthat discipline is the cornerstone to any success. I am happy to say that there\nhas been improved discipline in this school and no doubt, students at Chesamisi\nHigh school are beginning to reap its fruits,\u201d he posed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school encourages and rewards\nself-discipline whereby students work without much supervision. \u201cDoing the\nright thing at the right time and at the right place sums up self-discipline.\nIt is this self-discipline that has enabled our school to shine academically\nand in co-curricular activities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However Mr. Serem\ndecried cases of theft which were rampant among the students,\nwhere he called on parents to instill discipline among their sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in the days of\nA-levels, it was Chesamisi that blazed the path for its students to the\nUniversity of Nairobi (UoN). Friends School Kamusinga, turned the tables with\nthe onset of O-levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tiff got\ninterestingly when girls were thrown in the mix. Chesamisi boys had their eyes\non lasses from Misikhu High (now St Cecilia Girls), while Friends School\nsalivated after Lugulu Girls. For that, Friends School considered Chesamisi\nboys daft, because they believed they were dating the best brains in Bungoma.\nChesamisi never took this lying down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chesamisi\u00a0 High school which\u00a0\u00a0gave educational light to several prominent people\u00a0 including \u00a0the former supreme court judge Smokin Wanjala is one among the former students of the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others include\nthe late Former Vice President, Kijana Wamalwa, former  Vihiga\nCounty governor Moses Akaranga and senate speaker Ken Lusaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chesamisi is located at the foot of Mt Elgon in Kimilili Constituency and was established in 1964 by the mild and friendly Quaker missionaries.\u00a0ENDS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
