This has led to high oxygen intake thereby outstripping the supply by the plant. The\ncurrent oxygen plant, which is the main supplier of oxygen to the facility, has\nbeen outstripped by the demand and yet KRA is holding onto our oxygen plant at\nthe port of Mombasa over Sh8million tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe hospital has\nbeen admitting patients from the neighboring Counties in critical conditions\nwho can only survive on a high oxygen flow machine. This has led to high oxygen\nintake thereby outstripping the supply by the plant. We are urging the national\ntreasury to intervene and have KRA release the oxygen plant,\u201d said Oparanya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oparanya said the\nKakamega County General Hospital could no longer admit critical Covid-19\npatients demanding high oxygen flow due to the acute shortage of the commodity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><code> \u201cOn 14<sup>th<\/sup> June, 2021, Kakamega County received 2,016 test kits from KEMSA whose expiry date was 3<sup>rd<\/sup> July, 2021 (valid for two weeks). The health facilities were only able to utilize 1,104 of the kits,&#8221; said Oparanya<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new\nsupply of antigen reagents to conduct up to 4000 tests is expected any time\nthis week from KEMSA,\u201d said Oparanya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nCounty is able to test using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) at KCGH for emergencies\nfor up to 48 patients per day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally,\nSt. Mary\u2019s Mission Hospital \u2013 Mumias is able to offer PCR at a subsidized cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya.jpg 960w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/oparanya-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><figcaption><strong><code>Governor Wycliffe Oparanya<\/code><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\nare also ten (10) Sub County, two (2) Faith Based and two (2) GK Prison\nfacility labs that are able to offer Antigen (Rapid) tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe County received a total of 38,300 doses of\nAstraZeneca-Oxford Covid-19 vaccine, 30,500 doses for vaccination in the first\nround and 7,800 for the second dose,\u201d said Oparanya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far, the Department of Health has vaccinated 36,499\npeople in both first and second doses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I take this opportunity to therefore encourage our people\nto go for Covid-19 vaccination as this has been proved one of the successful\ncampaigns in the fight against the infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The County has\nrecorded 20 Covid-19 patients admitted at KCGH and Mumias Level 4 Hospital. Two\npatients are in ICU at KCGH, one on oxygen and another one on ventilator.
