Kakamega Women Rep spends Christmas with street families and\nnew mothers <\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than fifteen babies were born at the Kakamega County Teaching\nand Referral Hospital on the Christmas day as the World celebrated the birth of\nJesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Alice Harambe, the facility\u2019s nursing Incharge\nof the Maternity Wing, Christmas day came with lots of blessings as more\n\u2018Jesus\u2019 were born few hours after the \u2018baby Jesus\u2019 was born in a manger in\nBethlehem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExpectant women who were experiencing labour pains\nthroughout the night starting delivering at 3am and by 3pm, fifteen newborns\nhad been ushered into the world. We didn\u2019t receive any newborn at the twelfth\nhour of the midnight, when the Messiah to save the mankind was born. At 3am,\nthe first woman delivered a bouncing baby boy,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kakamega County Women Representative, Elsie Muhanda, took\ntime off her busy schedule and spent her afternoon with the new mothers at the\nfacility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patients could not hide their happiness as Mama Elsie\nvisited them loaded with goodies to share the joy of Christmas together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Muhanda gifted them with baby diapers, bread, milk and\nother foodstuffs needed to enhance growth of young babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheila Inganji, 23, who delivered her baby boy, Shadrack Imbuye,\nat 3am while breastfeeding her baby, met Ms Muhanda for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cI am really a happy\nmother now after delivering Shadrack my son just a few hours after our Messiah was\nborn. If he was a baby girl, I would have named her after the Women\nReprentative. She has blessed me and am happy. It\u2019s good when women leaders\nstand with their fellow women in hour of need,\u201d said Inganji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Muhanda while addressing the press at the facility said\nshe chose to celebrate the day with the new mothers and sick patients by giving\nhope and sharing with them the love of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ms Muhanda, during the festive season leaders\nshould spent their time with the less fortunate in the society who elevated\nthem to who (politicians) are today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cWe are all Kenyans\nand even in this festive season, we should remember our children and mothers\nwho are at the hospital and share food with them. I urge all elected leaders\nnot to run away from those who made them get in power but instead be closer to\nthem and make merry together.\u201d She said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Women Representative fed over 200 street\nfamilies at the Kakamega Youth Empowerment Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Muhanda urged the\nCounty Government of Kakamega to consider constructing a rehabilitation centre\nfor them, saying the rehab centre can help in making them responsible citizens\nin future. \u201cWe must take care of the street children and ensure their basic\nneeds like food, shelter and clothing is catered for,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Muhanda challenged both the national and county governments\nto construct schools for the street families since those who have reformed and\ngone back to school, have been posting exemplary performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAndrew Owili is a street child and was helped by well-wishers\nto go back to school. In this year\u2019s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education\n(KCPE), she scored 336 marks. I will pay for his secondary education,\u201d said\nMuhanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also visited the Kakamega GK prisons and distributed\nfood stuffs to them also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Woman MP also met the over 125 Tumaini Scholars (teenage\nmothers who she took back to school) at Kakamega Youth Empowerment Centre. They\nwere joined by Eagles scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five of the teenage mothers, sat for this year\u2019s Kenya\nCertificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and scored between B-Plain and C\n(Plus). Ms Muhanda said she would help them secure admission in the leading\nuniversities in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are giving the young mothers a second chance in life to\nredeem themselves. They have to understand their current situation and we won\u2019t\ncondemn them for getting pregnant. We will support them to realise their full\npotential,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
