T<\/strong>op candidates want to pursue Medicine and Engineering <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kakamega County was thrust into the national limelight after students from\nthe county emerged as the best candidates nationally in this year’s Kenya\nCertificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exams were released by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now three students from the county who scored straight A\u2019s have chosen\nMedicine and Engineering as their dream career courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are Tony Wabuko,18, (Kapsabet Boys), the best student in the country,\nMichelle Ambunya (Kenya High) and Frankline Wanyama (Maranda Boys).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wabuko scored an A plain of 87.159 points, Wanyama scored an A plain of 82\npoints whereas Ms Michelle and scored an A plain of 81 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wabuko who hails from Mumias East Sub County wants to study Medicine at the\nUniversity of Nairobi same as Wanyama who wants to a neurosurgeon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 However, for Michelle, Strathmore\nUniversity or the University of Nairobi will be a better option for her from\nwhere she is pondering between taking Medicine or Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was confidant to be among the top 100 best candidates in the country but\nI didn\u2019t imagine I will be declared the top student nationally. I want to\npursue medicine, it has been my childhood dream course,\u201d said Wabuko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: \u201cWe put prayers first in everything we were doing while at\nKapsabet Boys through hard work and determination. Teachers were very helpful\nand now we have returned Kapsabet boys, the school we know, back to the Kenyan\nmap as an academic giant,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michelle on her part said they had a good working relationship with their\nteachers who always encouraged them to work hard which was a gateway to having\na future successful life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cWe had good teachers who understood\nour strengths and weaknesses. They treated us like their own children and we\nagreed among ourselves to perform better in this year\u2019s KCSE exams. Our parents\nalso supported us both financially and spiritually and we thank God for the\nresults,\u201d said Michelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Michelle, she has always dreamt of being the first lady\nEngineer from Navakholo sub county, their ancestral home, saying no human is\nlimited and that what a man can do, a woman can do that job better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her mother Rosemary, said Michelle was a performer ever since she was in\nprimary school and they expected she will get an A- minus and not a straight A.\n\u201cShe was very disciplined and hardworking. We invested in him a lot and he had\ngiven us joy. We will celebrate Christmas as a happy family,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her cousin, Abukaka who is the Personal Assistant to the Kakamega County\nAssembly Speaker, Morris Buluma told County Splash News that as a family they\nwill have a conversation with Michelle so that she chooses a career course that\nis marketable between Medicine and Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn this county, she is the top girl in Navakholo Sub County and we are\nproud of her. This is like an early Christmas for us as a family,\u201d said\nAbukaka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Wanyama of Maranda High said he wants to study medicine so that he can\nemulate Education CS Prof Magoha, his role model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile,\nKakamega High is the top school in the county with a mean score of 7.7 points\nfollowed by Booker Academy at 7.0508 points and Butere Girls had a mean of\n7.452points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others are\nSt Peters Boys Mumias (7.322), Mabole Boys (7.118), St Mary\u2019s Girl\u2019s Mumias\n(7.007), St Peter\u2019s Seminary (7) and Eshibinga High (6.9635).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Friends School Kamusinga with a mean of 9.1608 was the best school in Western region followed by Bunyore Girls who had a mean of 8.8925 and Mudasa Academy had 8.62 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
