{"id":1526,"date":"2021-02-01T12:12:16","date_gmt":"2021-02-01T12:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=1526"},"modified":"2021-02-01T12:12:16","modified_gmt":"2021-02-01T12:12:16","slug":"1526","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=1526","title":{"rendered":"Breaking News : Former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae is dead"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nairobi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Seliphar Musungu <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae has died aged 88.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to his eldest son Charles Nyachae, his father died while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Our father rested an hour ago and we thank God for the days he gave him on this earth,&#8221; said Mr. Charles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang&#8217;i said it was a very sad day for the country for losing such a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/nyachae.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1527\"\/><figcaption><strong><em>The late Simeon Nyachae<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was born on February 6, 1932 in Nyaribari, Kisii County to a powerful\ncolonial chief: Musa Nyandusi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nyachae went to Nyanchwa Seventh-day Adventist School in 1941 and joined\nKereri Intermediate School six years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1949, he was admitted to Kisii Government African School where he\ncompleted his A levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He then joined South Devon Technical College &amp; Churchill College,\nCambridge for his higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1954, he was employed at his father\u2019s chief\u2019s camp as a district clerk\nand six years later posted as a District Officer in Kangundo Division and in\n1963, he was appointed District Commissioner and he would later move up the\nranks to Provincial Commissioner, a position he served in from 1965 to 1979.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nyachae was then appointed as Head of Civil Service &amp; Secretary to the\nCabinet in 1979 and served in this capacity until 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His political career began after that but in 1988, the Kanu Governing\nCouncil barred him from vying as MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was not until 1992 that he was voted in as MP for Nyaribari Chache\nConstituency and it was in the same year that he was appointed as Minister of\nAgriculture, Livestock &amp; Marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"538\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/file72d45tn6igx3cbu26fp.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/file72d45tn6igx3cbu26fp.jpg 538w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/file72d45tn6igx3cbu26fp-202x300.jpg 202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><figcaption><strong>The late Simeon Nyachae<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seven years later, he was appointed as Finance Minister but quit Government\na year later after being demoted to the Industry Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2002, he unsuccessfully vied for the Presidency under a Ford-Kenya\nparty ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, he was flown to South Africa after he reportedly suffered a stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had been admitted to the Nairobi Hospital\u2019s Intensive Care Unit but was\nflown out for specialized treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nyachae served as Nyaribari Chache MP from 1992 until his appointment to the\nCabinet as Agriculture Minister before he was moved to the Finance docket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fiery politician would later announce his resignation from the Cabinet\nin 1999 after a fall out with the late former President Daniel Moi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reuters reports that Nyachae rejected his new portfolio as Industrial\nDevelopment Minister saying he had stepped on toes of \u2018untouchables\u2019 in the Moi\ngovernment where corruption was said to be rampant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ends<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nairobi By Seliphar Musungu Former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae has died aged 88.
