{"id":1509,"date":"2021-01-29T15:16:37","date_gmt":"2021-01-29T15:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/?p=1509"},"modified":"2021-01-29T15:16:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-29T15:16:37","slug":"barasa-foundation-empowering-women-in-kakamega-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=1509","title":{"rendered":"Barasa Foundation: Empowering women in Kakamega County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kakamega <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Collins Matubwi <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite efforts by the central\ngovernment, devolved units and non-governmental organizations in empowering\nwomen and the girl child in the society, there is still a big number of women\nin some parts of the country are yet to be reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is because of this that Barasa\nFoundation has embraced women empowerment as one of its main pillars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0043.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0043.jpg 720w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0043-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0043-696x870.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>FCPA Fernandes Barasa sanitising young kids during a past church service<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through the patronage of FCPA\nFernandes Barasa, the foundation has navigated through rough waters to realise\nthe dream of many young women and making life better for the vulnerable women\nin society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to its director, Dr Janet\nBarasa; a senior lecturer of education at Masinde Muliro University of Science\nand Technology(MMUST), the organisation came up with a group of 40 women known\nas &#8216;team 40&#8217; across Kakamega County with an aim of identifying women led\nhouseholds and lead the mission of empowering them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve many households in the\ncounty which are led by women either as widows, single mothers or irresponsible\nhusbands and there is need to help rescue the situation because such women are\nprone to domestic violence and frustration,&#8221; said Dr Janet Barasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0040.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1513\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0040.jpg 720w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0040-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG-20210129-WA0040-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><strong> Dr Janet Barasa at a past event<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until now, the foundation has\nreached thousands of women led households through community-based women\nprojects, maternity health care, advocacy and charitable support to the very\nvulnerable women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through frequent provision of\nsanitary pads to school girls the foundation has helped reduce gender-based challenges,\nwhich is a big nightmare to many girls. They are prone to challenges that\nneeds extra support from both governments, the society and well-wishers.
