As I walked along the pavements\ntowards the Administration Block of St Peters Boys High School -Mumias, I met Peter\nOmondi Mango, my former teacher and a Kiswahili linguist in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mango a holder of a Master\u2019s Degree\nin Kiswahili is among the wheeler-dealers (fixers) at the Catholic sponsored\nschool  who have ensured that besides it\nbeing the best performing schools in the region, it also maintains its prestige\nin co-curriculum activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arguably, St Peter\u2019s Boys Mumias that\nis under the steady leadership of Cosmas Nabungolo, a renowned football coach\nin East and Central Africa- is also among the top performing schools in\nKiswahili language in Western region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI’ve taught in over four schools in Nyanza region but none of them can be equated to what we do here at St Peters Boys. We also have a very supportive principal (Mr Nabungolo) who ensures everything is done to perfection,\u201d said Mr. Mango. <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

As we sit down for an interview, the\ncelebrated Kiswahili teachers says the secret behind  St Peters Boys success story is the high level\nof discipline they have instilled in the students as well as maintaining\nunmatched academic standards  inscribed\nin its motto “Mens sana in corpore sano: A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mango, 42, is a father of five\nchildren and a devoted husband of one under the staunch patronage and doctrines\nof the Roman Catholic Faith and now is eyeing to join politics in the 2022\ngeneral elections as a ward rep representing the electorate of the\nIsongo\/Malaha\/Makunga ward in Mumias East Constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: \u201cWe used to brew chang\u2019aa\n(illicit brew) or work on other people\u2019s farms to get school fees.  After excelling in my secondary education, I wanted\nto take a course in Medicine and Surgery but that did not come to fruition, as there\nwas no school fees. We want to stop that narrative by ensuring that all\nstudents who have passed exams join universities of their choice,\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mango says when he was almost giving\nup, Colomban Nanzushi who at one time was the Principal of Namulungu and St\nIgnatius Mukumu Boys high school encouraged him not to give up in life and that\nis how he pursued teaching and succeeded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mango is an alma mater of Isongo\nPrimary and Isongo secondary school. He went to Maseno University for his\nundergraduate studies and masters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from his teaching profession\nand politics, Mango a talented footballer and volleyball player cum coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
