{"id":12202,"date":"2026-05-01T18:58:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T15:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=12202"},"modified":"2026-05-01T18:58:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T15:58:45","slug":"osiya-claims-otuoma-may-skip-2027-gubernatorial-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/?p=12202","title":{"rendered":"Osiya Claims Otuoma May Skip 2027 Gubernatorial Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Reuben Olita\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Busia gubernatorial aspirant Arthur Osiya has claimed that incumbent Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma may not defend his seat in the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Friday during the burial service of Selina Iparasi Etyang at Kekalet Comprehensive School, Osiya alleged that sources close to the governor suggest he might not appear on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReports from people close to him indicate he may not contest. I urge Paul Ekwenye (Olunga) to advise the governor to stay in the race until the end,\u201d Osiya said.<\/p>\n<p>The late Selina, 45, succumbed to breast cancer and was an ECDE teacher at Kaeset Comprehensive School. We must speak in one voice in supporting the President,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Osiya cautioned residents against falling prey to fraudsters soliciting money in exchange for jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome individuals are conning residents between Ksh200,000 and Ksh500,000, or even livestock, pretending they can secure jobs. Others falsely claim I require Ksh2,000. Do not give out any money,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted challenges facing Busia County, including salary delays for workers and the detention of mothers in hospitals over unpaid maternity bills.<\/p>\n<p>Teso North MP Oku Kaunya urged Bukhayo North\/Walatsi MCA Gardy Jakaa to first register as a voter before expressing interest in contesting for the Teso North parliamentary seat.<\/p>\n<p>Oku also announced a free dental outreach clinic at KMTC Teso Campus, sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
