\n\u200eKimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa on Friday surprised a rally crowd in Bungoma town after paying Sh100,000 school fees for two needy students, drawing applause from residents who attended the political gathering.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eSpeaking during the rally, Barasa said the gesture was driven by his belief that education remains the strongest tool for transforming lives and uplifting communities.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eHe noted that many bright students in Bungoma County drop out of school due to lack of fees, a situation he said leaders must deliberately address.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eThe MP used the occasion to drum up support for his 2027 gubernatorial bid, pledging that education would be among his top priorities should he be elected Bungoma governor.
\n\u200e
\n\u200e \u201cOne of my key agendas once I am elected governor is to boost education across the county. No child should miss school because of poverty,\u201d Barasa said.<\/p>\n

\n\u200eHe further cited his recent intervention in Kimilili Constituency, where he supported all students transitioning to Grade 10 saying the move was aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and encouraging school retention.

\n\u200eBarasa also outlined other sectors he plans to prioritise, including vocational training, healthcare and road infrastructure.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eHe expressed concern over the poor state of many Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in the county, promising to allocate resources to upgrade facilities and improve learning conditions.
\n\u200e
\n\u200e\u201cMost vocational training centres in Bungoma are in a bad state. I intend to invest heavily in infrastructure and ensure our youth acquire practical skills that can create jobs,\u201d he said.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eThe legislator took a swipe at his political opponents, accusing them of lacking a clear development agenda for the county.
\n\u200e
\n\u200e He urged residents to judge leaders based on tangible achievements rather than empty promises.

\n\u200e \u201cBungoma residents can confirm what I have done in Kimilili Constituency. I am only in my eighth year as MP, but the impact speaks for itself,\u201d Barasa remarked.
