Governor Kenneth Lusaka on Friday led Bungoma County in marking the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations, using the occasion to outline key achievements his administration has delivered across critical sectors.<\/p>\n
Addressing residents at Sang’alo Boys High School in Kanduyi,Governor Lusaka said Jamhuri Day offers a moment to reflect on the nation\u2019s journey while renewing commitment to development and unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cJamuhuri is not only about remembering the past; it is about renewing our commitment to build the Kenya and Bungoma we all desire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that his administration has made \u201ctangible progress\u201d in improving health services, empowering farmers, expanding infrastructure, supporting education, and strengthening governance.<\/p>\n
Health Sector Gains<\/p>\n
Lusaka reported significant improvements in the health sector, including the promotion of hundreds of health workers, recruitment of new staff, improved drug supply, and sustained community health promoter programmes.
\n\u201cWe have upgraded and equipped health facilities across all sub-counties and fast-tracked the construction of the Level 6 Hospital in Sichei. Our Teaching and Referral Hospital will remain a Level 5 facility to expand specialised services closer to our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Boosting Agriculture and Food Security<\/p>\n
The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen agriculture, noting that subsidised fertilizer and certified seeds had been distributed countywide, alongside support to dairy farmers through coolers and AI services.
\n\u201cOur County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Sang\u2019alo is taking shape, promising better value for our farmers\u2019 produce,\u201d Lusaka said, adding that partnerships under NAVCDP aim to restore Bungoma as Western Kenya\u2019s food basket.<\/p>\n
Infrastructure and Roads Development<\/p>\n
Despite initial challenges with the new e-government procurement system, Lusaka affirmed that road projects were firmly on course. He announced that the contractor on the Naitiri\u2013Brigadier Road is completing the remaining 2 kilometres, while works have resumed on the Dorofu\u2013Sang\u2019alo\u2013Musikoma Junction Road.
\n\u201cOur urban centres are being upgraded with street lighting, drainage and modern markets, restoring dignity to traders and safety to our streets,\u201d he said. He also confirmed ongoing rehabilitation of Sikata\u2013Bokoli\u2013Kimilili Road and continued opening of rural access roads across all sub-counties.<\/p>\n
Education and Youth Empowerment<\/p>\n
In the education sector, Lusaka announced that the county has issued an intent to hire more ECDE teachers and promote those due for advancement starting January 2026.
\n\u201cOur VTCs are being equipped to give youth practical skills, and we intend to hire more TVET trainers on permanent and pensionable terms,\u201d he said. Thousands of ECDE learners continue to benefit from the county\u2019s Uji Programme.<\/p>\n
He further highlighted progress on Phase Two of Masinde Muliro Stadium, where roofing of terraces is underway, and plans to construct and upgrade Amtalla Stadium in Kimilili.
\n\u201cWe are supporting innovation, sports and culture because the youth are the torchbearers of Bungoma\u2019s future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Governance and Public Service Efficiency<\/p>\n
Lusaka announced that a substantive County Public Service Board will soon be fully constituted, pending approval from the County Assembly.
\n\u201cWe have championed transparency, accountability and efficiency because Bungoma deserves leadership that listens and delivers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The governor urged residents to remain united beyond political divides and focus on development.
\n\u201cLet us embrace the spirit of Jamuhuri by choosing hope over fear, action over complacency, and unity over division,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have seen what we can achieve when we work together.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event brought together leaders including MPs John Makali, Kanduyi ,Didmus Barasa, Kimilili,Thomas Sankei, County Commissioner for Bungoma, County Assembly Speaker Emmanuel Situma, MCAs and senior county officials among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
