class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Busia <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A discrepancy in lockdown measures\nbetween Kenya and Uganda has turned out as a major concern on populations\nliving with HIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a region where communities depend\non each other for a number of cross border engagement including trade and\naccess to medical system, this population has find itself between a rock and\nhard place since the outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19) in East Africa in March\nthis year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Busia, the closure of the border\nlocked out over 200 Kenyans Living with HIV who are finding it hard to access\ntheir ARVs in Kenyan facilities in Busia and Budalangi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Constance Were, the Busia County HIV\nand STI coordinator disclosed that they have been forced to collaborate with\nUgandan government, security personnel at the border and Busia County\ngovernment to deliver the medicines to affected groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She observed that many patients had\nstopped taking their ARVs since they could not access them and thus posing as a\nthreat to the fight against the scourge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"461\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Ms Were, quite a number\nof women who are in polyandry marriages and have partners both in Kenya and\nUganda are yet to disclose to their spouses their HIV positive status, posing a\nchallenge in control over spread of the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, despite the challenges, the\nofficial announced that HIV prevalence in Busia had dropped from 7.7 per cent\nin 2018&nbsp;to 6.8 percent by June this year following expansion of\nintervention sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Principle investigator at Kisumu\nKEMRI CDC, Grace Mboya revealed that they have two ongoing studies that\ninvolves a set mosaic antigens, which are generated via computer to be able to\ncreate a vaccine that is effective to a broad range of HIV strains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mboya said that RV144 Vaccine has\nshown 31.2 per cent efficacies much lower than universally agreed 50 cent thus\nnot effective against the prevention of HIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to World Health\nOrganisation (WHO), more than 25 million people received treatment with\nantiretroviral drugs in 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
