I will not hand over the government to our enemies,\u201d\nOjaamong said, adding that,\u201d In 2017 I was contesting against Amos Wako and I\nbeat him who else can match my political prowess in this county? He posed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em> \u201c Mulomi is the best deputy governor in the country, he is always  available whenever I am away to ensure the government runs smoothly,\u201d  said Ojaamong. <\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His Deputy Moses Mulomi is among\npotential contenders for the top county seat. Mulomi has been receiving praises\nfrom his boss in public function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Mulomi is the best deputy governor\nin the country, he is always available whenever I am away to ensure the\ngovernment runs smoothly,\u201d said Ojaamong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Woman Representative Florence Mutua,\nSenator Amos Wako, Privatization Commission Chairman Paul Otuoma who lost to\nOjaamong in the 2017 polls have also shown interest succeed Ojaamong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Wako is likely not to\nengage in active politics in 2022 according to his allies citing meedical\nreasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others salivating for the top county\nseat are Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) employee Vincent\nSidai, Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) Managing Director Lucas Meso who\nsome locals have branded \u2018Facebook governor\u2019 because of spirited campaigns he\nput up on social media with hired youths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"595\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG-20200818-WA0024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1063\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG-20200818-WA0024.jpg 720w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG-20200818-WA0024-300x248.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG-20200818-WA0024-696x575.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ojaamong in a bid to win support of\nButula constituents prior to 2017, opted for Dr Mulomi as his running mate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor had fallen out with his\nthen Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa also from Butula constituency. Mr Wangalwa\nlater decamped to Otuoma\u2019s camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wangalwa thought Otuoma will offer\nhim a new job if the latter became Busia governor but that was not to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mulomi is currently rated high for\nhis cool approach on day to day running of county affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The non-confrontational and\ndiplomatic Mulomi has managed to streamline the more complex Health and\nSanitation department where he serves as Executive Member in an acting\ncapacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is against this backdrop that has\nmade Mulomi a darling of Busia residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scholars are convinced that he is\nthe right person for Busia and therefore deserves to be the county Chief\nExecutive Officer (CEO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mulomi who is an Entomogist by\nprofession boasts of immense experience in agricultural and research field\nhaving been in-charge of more than 13 countries in Africa as FAO head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"524\" height=\"574\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/hon.-dr.-paul-otuoma.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1065\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/hon.-dr.-paul-otuoma.jpg 524w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/hon.-dr.-paul-otuoma-274x300.jpg 274w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>Dr Paul Otuoma<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to his grasp on development,\nOjaamong entrusted him with responsibility of monitoring all projects the\ncounty is implementing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">County Executive Committee Members\ntogether with their Chief Officers brief Mulomi regularly on the progress of\nprojects in their departments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has on a number of occasions been\nseen publicly commissioning development projects in various parts of the county\non behalf of governor Ojaamong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A CEC who sought anonymity said\nMulomi means well for the county and if given chance, he can take the county to\ngreater heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAlways punctual in a meeting and listens\nkeenly to what departments are doing in terms of development and gives much\nneeded ideas and direction to the cabinet in the absence of the governor,\u201d said\nthe CEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ojaamong is on record assuring\nresidents of Butula that he will reciprocate the favour they accorded him by\nallowing Mulomi to stand with him at the height of heated political contest\nwith Otuoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He however challenged them to\norganize and front one person as their candidate for the governor. Mutua and\nMulomi both hail from Butula constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mulomi enjoys considerable support\nfrom other luhya populated sub counties including Funyula, Budalang&#8217;i, Nambale,\nMatayos, besides Butula.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/gUWo36gz.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1067\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/gUWo36gz.jpg 400w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/gUWo36gz-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/gUWo36gz-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Busia Women Rep Florence Mutua<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou have supported me twice, I will\nhave to pay back in 2022 but put your house in order first so that your\ncandidate can sail through easily,\u201d said Ojaamong while in Butula last year. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mulomi is also upbeat that he has\nwhat it takes to lead Busia. \u201cIf our people decide to go for developed oriented\nperson then I stand a good chance of being the second governor of Busia,\u201d says\nMulomi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are a number of things we\npromised to deliver to the residents of Busia in 2017, the governor and I are\ncommitted to ensuring that we fulfill before next elections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutua has her work cut out in the\nquest to become the next governor. She will have to weather the bad tribal\npolitics that is likely to play out ahead of the General Elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some Marachians are unhappy that she\nhas lacked respect for Deputy governor Moses Mulomi on a number of\noccasions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident in Butula where the\nWoman Rep deliberately refused to acknowledge the presence of Muomi who was\npresent during the tour of Mombasa governor Hassan Ali Joho in Butula nevet\nwent down well with a section of elders who attended the event in Butula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"595\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Amos-Wako.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1066\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Amos-Wako.jpg 595w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Amos-Wako-300x151.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Busia Senator Amos Wako<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutua has the backing of the women\nparticularly in Teso region. Her political support in Teso may however be\ndetermined by who the First Lady Judy Ojaamong will support for Busia governor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutua and Judy do not see eye to eye\nfor reasons better known to them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> <strong>Mutua refused to acknowledge the presence of Ms Judy who was present as  one of the invited guests to the surprise of people who had attended the  function. <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judy wants to be the next Busia\nWoman Representative while Ojaamong is going for Tsso South parliamentary seat\nin the subsequent elections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The differences between Mutua and\nJudy played out openly last year during a funds drive in Angorom which&nbsp;\nwas presided over by Ford Kenya Deputy party leader MP Richard Onyonka of\nKitutu South Constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutua refused to acknowledge the\npresence of Ms Judy who was present as one of the invited guests to the\nsurprise of people who had attended the function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Mutua has not convinced locals\nsatisfactorily why she wants to be the governor and the habit of waging war\nwith her competitors may work against her badly,\u201d says Busia resident Julius\nObuoro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/file6xsma5ltnoj166j4jn4f.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1064\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/file6xsma5ltnoj166j4jn4f.jpg 800w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/file6xsma5ltnoj166j4jn4f-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/file6xsma5ltnoj166j4jn4f-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/file6xsma5ltnoj166j4jn4f-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added, If among the Luhya\ncandidates that majority of Teso voters can go for is Mulomi and again the pro\nOjaamong individuals working for the County are insisting on continuity and the\nsure bet is Mulomi.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Mutua has not publicly\ndeclared she is going for the seat, her movements in the county to woo for\nsupport tells it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her National Government Affirmative\nAction Fund (NGAAF) office at the Busia Airstrip is beehive of activity\nwhenever she is around with women being given, jembes, lessos, grants and posho\nmills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c It is not time for politics but I\nwill make official stance as we approach 2022,\u201d she is quoted as saying.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recent appointment of Mutua as\nSpokesperson of Busia County was rejected by two MPs namely Sakwa Bunyasi\n(Nambale) and Oundo Mudenyo (Funyula) and elders led by their chair Mwalimu\nGeorge Wesonga.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countysplash.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Eng.Vincent-Sidai-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1068\"\/><figcaption><strong><em>Eng.Vincent-Sidai<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Bunyasi has already made it clear\nhis name will be on the ballot. Sakwa has so far hosted elders from at least\nfive constituencies trying to woo for their support ahead of pollls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is also seen as development\noriented individual and can take the county to greater heights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just like Mulomi, Sakwa holds the\nview that if residents decide to go for someone who is keen on development then\nhe is the right man for the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe general view of the locals is\nthat they want someone who is a manager and in me, they have the manager they\nwant,\u201d said Bunyasi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having worked with World Bank for\nmany years, Bunyasi believes developing Busia will be as easy as ABC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is currently serving his second\nterm as Nambale lawmaker having been elected first during the 2013 General\nElections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> <strong>Otuoma of late has been very close to ODM Raila Odinga. The former  Funyula MP decamped ODM in 2017 and vied for Busia governor as an  independent candidate following an acrimonious ODM primaries where he  felt beat Ojaamong in nominations but he was rigged out. <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He warned that politics of\npropaganda and innuendos aimed at tarnishing the reputation of other\npoliticians is archaic and have no space in this era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Busia is a cosmopolitan county,\ntherefore politicians should focus on telling people their agenda because that\nis what is needed,\u201d says Bunyasi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sidai who landed a new job at the\nKenya Ports Authority has not declared interest of succeeding Ojaamong. He\nshelved his ambitions in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2013 he gave Ojaamong run for his\nmoney but lost while riding on defunct United Development Front (UDF). If\nluhyas happen to have many candidates but Teso front one candidates, political\npundits say the Teso candidate will likely carry the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It remains to be seen if Ojaamong\nwill stick with his Deputy or opt for someone else in 2022 as he is known to be\na very crafty and cunning politician therefore Mulomi should not sit and wait\nfor endorsement from his boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"366\" height=\"257\" src=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/dNz7-CRd.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1069\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/dNz7-CRd.jpg 366w, https:\/\/horizonnews.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/dNz7-CRd-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Lucas Meso<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga is on\nrecord saying that Teso region should not front a candidate but support whoever\nwill come from luhya side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTesos have tested power and seen\nhow sweet it is, it would be prudent if this time round they supported a\ncandidate from luhya side then in return they (Tesos) will be given DG\nposition,\u201d said Odanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otuoma of late has been very close\nto ODM Raila Odinga.
