A renowned media personality turned politician has announced his bid to vie for the Kanduyi parliamentary seat in 2027.
In the past one year, Social media forums were awash with rumours that Mr. Zaccheus Mwasame, a veteran journalist will be going for the senatorial seat but in a phone interview with Horizonnews he clarified that he will be vying for the parliamentary seat.
“Personally I have never publicly announced anywhere that I will be vying for a senatorial seat but my close friends on social media have been doing so, so today I want to announce that I will be going for the Kanduyi parliamentary seat,” he said.
Mwasame stated that his decision had been informed by the huge delegations who have visited him for the past two weeks.
“After having a wide consultation with all stakeholders in the constituency I have made a decision to go for the parliamentary seat in 2027, the stakeholders agreed that I am the person who would initiate development projects in the vast constituency,” he said.

The former NTV Reporter stated that Kanduyi needs a young, energetic person who would transform the region into a development hub which will attract other leaders for benchmarking.
For the last one year, Mwasame has initiated many life changing projects in the constituency including offering scholarships for over 250 students in secondary schools, Middle level colleges and universities, he is also constructing houses for widows, offering his hand to the bereaved families, settling hospital bills and initiating the release of youths arrested by police officers.
He has crisscrossed the entire constituency contributing for boda boda, mama mbogas and youth groups while injecting sensible amounts to help them transform their lives.
He is a down to earth youth who would offer help to any person in times of need and he has demonstrated this in various occassions.
Dr. Mwasame stands out as a key leader who will transform Kanduyi constituency if elected the area Mp.
The current Mp John Makali is an advocate of the high court, a first time legislator elected on Ford Kenya party led by the national assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Makali was elected in 2022 after defeating Wafula Wamunyinyi who vied on DAP-K party whose party leader is Mr. Eugene Wamalwa.
Despite the fact that Mwasame has joined a group of other leaders including former Bungoma County roads CECM Collins Mukhongo, business man Wesley Wepukhulu, Bungoma County Assembly Majority leader Joseph Nyongesa and Mr.Wamunyinyi, he is yet to mention the party he will vie on.
Mwasame’s life story is one of resilience, ambition, and unwavering commitment to his dreams.
Born from a humble background in Nalutiri, Ndengelwa location in Kanduyi constituency, he grew up in a small village where poverty was a constant challenge.
Having often walked to school barefoot, a reality that served as both a burden and a motivator.
These early hardships shaped his character, instilling in him a powerful work ethic and a resolve to pursue education despite the odds.
His efforts paid off when he earned a chance to join FSK high school, where he was able to sharpen his academic skills.
He later moved to Bokoli boys high school while in form three after his parents were unable to raise his school fees.
“Before I joined Bokoli boy’s high school, I once worked as a herd boy where despite the hardships, I managed to raise some coins which helped me to join the school and pursue education, I went ahead to be picked as the head boy then,” he said.
After his short stint at the school, he passed with flying colours and managed through well wishers to join Masinde Muliro university of science and technology in Kakamega County where he pursued a degree in education.
He would later on become a business man in Bungoma town where he supplied tree seedlings to various institutions and farmers.
He says his ambition to become a broadcaster was burning inside him after he heard of prominent figures in the journalism World including Jacob Maunda, Bill Omalla, Fred Obachi Machoka among others.
One thing led to the other and with God’s favour he landed a job with a Bungoma based West FM as a continuity presenter.
He would later join Nyota FM as a news reader before luck followed him and landed another job at NTV as a Reporter for Western region.

Having sharpened his broadcasting skills at the largest media house, his hard work and dedication saw him rise to the position of senior journalist.
At NTV, Mwasame became known for his integrity, balanced reporting, and the deep empathy he showed for the companies, parastatals and people he covered.
After leaving NTV he is currently working closely with President William Ruto’s close ally Farouk Kibet who is also his trusted advisor.
Through this connection, he has gained valuable insights into governance and leadership, learning how to navigate the complexities of Kenya’s political landscape.
His experiences in journalism and his network within political circles have given him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by Kanduyi residents.
He holds a Degree in Education, a Degree in journalism and mass comm, masters in linguistics and PhD in International Relations.
