Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has announced a major turnaround at Webuye Level 4 County Hospital, citing renewed development, improved governance and rising standards of healthcare delivery after years of stagnation.
Speaking during the hospitalโs end-year staff celebration, Lusaka praised health workers for their resilience and dedication, describing them as the backbone of the facility. He also paid tribute to six retiring senior staff members, lauding them for laying a firm foundation for the hospitalโs growth.
The governor said the county government, in partnership with development agencies, has implemented key infrastructure projects, including a HIV and outpatient block, with ongoing works such as a modern outpatient complex, ICU, renal unit and sewer line expected to significantly enhance services.
Administratively, reforms have improved patient flow, emergency response and maternity services, leading to faster and more dignified care. Lusaka further commended hospital management for better staff performance, improved attitudes, higher revenue collection and strengthened accountability.
He revealed that the facility recently received medical supplies worth Sh10 million from KEMSA, while critical equipment including the oxygen plant, generator and laundry machines have been repaired. The hospital has also been recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Integration, with its laboratory attaining ISO certification.
Lusaka assured staff that the county has cleared all pending bills for the 2024/2025 financial year and pledged to address staff shortages through recruitment once the County Public Service Board is fully constituted.
