Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called on more than 4,000 graduates of the Bungoma National Polytechnic to embrace creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills as they begin their careers in an increasingly competitive job market.

Speaking during the institutionโ€™s inaugural graduation ceremony in Sangโ€™alo, an event graced by Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, Principal Secretary for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Lusaka said the country relies on a new generation of thinkers and innovators to drive transformation across sectors.

โ€œToday is a day of triumph, a day of fulfilment,โ€ he said. โ€œAs you graduate, take with you the confidence that you are ready, ready to work, ready to lead, ready to innovate, and ready to be the generation that lifts communities, transforms industries, and shapes Kenyaโ€™s future.โ€

The governor cautioned the graduands against indulging in destructive behaviour, including drug and substance abuse, warning that many promising young people have lost direction due to illicit activities.

โ€œBut let me caution you: do not allow drugs, substance abuse, irresponsible behaviour, or negative peer influence to derail your future,โ€ he advised

He further highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the national and county government to improve infrastructure and safety at the institution. He noted that the county is in the process of installing additional high flag-mast lights to enhance security within the campus.

โ€œThe County Government remains committed to improving the safety of this institution,โ€ he said. โ€œPlans to install additional high flag-mast lights around the campus will significantly enhance security, ensuring that students can study, socialize, and move freely without fear.โ€

Lusaka also lauded the national government for accelerating the construction of the Dorofuโ€“Sangโ€™aloโ€“Musikoma Road, saying the project will boost mobility, trade, and regional connectivity.

โ€œWe extend sincere appreciation to the President of the Republic of Kenya for fast-tracking the construction of the Dorofuโ€“Sangโ€™aloโ€“Musikoma Road. The tarmacking has begun, the contractor is on site, and soon this corridor will be a modern, smooth, and efficient route for the entire region,โ€ he added.
