Busia County based journalists have been called upon to join Kenya Correspondents Association (KCA) to benefit from numerous opportunities offered.

Speaking during a sensitization tour on Wednesday, Western Region KCA Chairman Benson Lusenaka enumerated the benefits and opportunities available to journalists through the association which he said had benefited many scribes.

“We as KCA we advocate for better living standards for our members, once you register with us, you will benefit a lot from trainings, grants, fellowships, linkages, safety interventions and other opportunities,” he said.

“KCA is a friendly media organization which has played a critical role in helping many journalists at times of need and as such we advocate for a better living standards apart from your working places,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by KCA Western region treasurer Marvin Wangatia who urged Busia scribes to join KCA so as to get a chance to enjoy the numerous opportunities.
“We at KCA train journalists on safety issues, how to cover elections and your general welfare, KCA is a giant media organization which has done a lot for its members and the media sector in Kenya,” she said.

A veteran journalist Titus Oteba who is also the managing director of Horizonnews blog urged journalists to be innovative and venture into other businesses to increase their sources of revenue to sustain their livelihoods in an increasingly challenging media environment .
“Blogs are the new media, apart from working for your various legacy media organizations, also try venturing into this business which can be an additional source of earning rather than depending only on one source of livelihood,” he said.
