Malaba Catholic Faithful Mark Ash Wednesday With Special Message To Raila & Ruto

Malaba Catholic Faithful today marked the hash Wednesday to President William Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga to streamline the economy.

Addressing the press after the mass presided over by Malaba Parish Priest Fr Michael Wanyonyi at our Lady of Lourdes, Malaba Parish, Martin Omoit regretted that Kenya’s economy is not in the right direction.

Omoit of the St Joseph Community urged the two leaders who appear to be pulling one rope to sit down to improve on service delivery for the benefit of Kenyans.

” Make Kenya the Kenya we want, the Kenya that everybody is expecting,” Omoit said, calling on leaders to take advantage of the Lent period to put the country in the right place,” Omoit said.

Another Catholic faithful Francis Icasi Idewa said the main aim of Ash Wednesday, which kickstarted the Lent period, guides us how we ought to live in peace and to show love to each other as the church advocates.

” During this Lent period, leaders should serve residents in a humane manner, considering that the country has many needs and service delivery need to be upscaled. That will be one way of fulfilling the aim of Lent,” he said.

Fr Wanyonyi urged the Catholic faithful to embrace and to follow the way of the cross in this enduring 40-day period Jesus underwent in the wilderness before his crucifixion.

” Sin is part of Christianity, and it’s prudent we be tolerant and fulfil all that we are supposed to fulfil,” Fr Wanyonyi said.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. It’s an obligatory day of fasting and abstinence.

Catholics marked the Ash Wednesday by receiving ashes in the shape of a cross on their foreheads. This symbolizes repentance for sins and preparation for Lent.

Ashes are made from palms that were burned on Palm Sunday the previous year. They are mixed with holy water or oil. The ashes are a
reminder of the need for penance.
