Bungoma police station OCS David Odongo has launched investigations to arrest the suspects who lobbied a petrol bomb into the house a 20 year old mother of one who died later while receiving treatment.
The incident took place a week ago in township ward where the victim’s house caught fire after unknown people lobbied a petrol bomb into it in an apparent revenge mission in Mjini Estate.
They were targeting a male person but the would be victim had moved out of the rented house and hence the lady wasn’t aware of the things that were taking place.
The case as stated by Godfrey Awinja, said that his in-laws’ house was mistakenly set on fire as he was the one they had targeted.
“These people were aiming to kill me but they were given a wrong direction that led to the killing of my sister in-law. This is because I took part in forwarding the Lotto boxes from different areas here in Township, to the county Government, as it was an order following the increased theft cases from our Constituency,” he said.
On the other hand, Hellen Awinja who rescued the deceased’s baby stated the condition that her in-law was in before they rushed her together with the baby to Moi Referral Hospital.
“My in-law with her baby were in a very critical condition when I got there. The fire had burned up almost everything in the house,” she said.
“Doctors gave out the report that her body was burned almost 93% and this was beyond control leading to her succumbing to death in the cause of treatment while the baby who is undergoing treatment was burned to almost 50% but promised to do their best,” she added.
The family has claimed to be in imminent danger and is now calling up on the county government to intervene.
So far, two suspects have been reported arrested.
