Bungoma County Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany has reiterated the county’s commitment to enhancing maternal and neonatal healthcare.
Speaking at World Prematurity Day celebrations at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, she outlined efforts to strengthen neonatal care through investments in NICUs, staff training, and community outreach.
“Prematurity is a social and economic challenge affecting families and communities. The Bungoma Maternal and Child Health Initiative is focused on equipping facilities and empowering caregivers to ensure every preterm baby thrives,” she said.
Health CECM Carolyne Makali emphasized measures to reduce preterm births, urging parents to prevent teen pregnancies during the school break.
She noted the ministry’s financial strain but highlighted recent equipment donations for the 300-bed Mother and Child Hospital while calling for more partnerships.
The event, attended by healthcare professionals, community leaders, and parents, featured stories from mothers of preterm babies, underscoring resilience and hope.
Deputy Governor Mbatiany closed with a rallying call to build a Bungoma where every child thrives, regardless of their early start in life.
