Parents whose children school at the once academic giant St Mary’s Mumias Girls in Kakamega County are up in arms and want the Principal transfered.
They have raised a number of complaints against the Principal Ms Monica Buchichi and want her transferred for interfering with virtually everything at the learning institution.
Parents led by Mr.Festus Mungoro described the situation at the learning institution as dire and wants the Cabinet Secretary for education Julius Ogamba to intervene before it runs out of hand.
Miss Monicah Buchichi and the fear of St Mary’s Mumias Girls was the letter seen by Horizon News.
“Our concern has been drawn to the following areas that are key to OUR SCHOOL which we can see spiraling into a failed state of the Giant school, we are and have been proud of hitherto,”
Mungoro stated that they need an urgent action and prompt one that should be geared towards avoiding this otherwise foreseen catastrophy.
“We need your Prompt action on especially finance, This Madam has introduced UNLAWFUL EXTRA LEVIES to the tune of Sh10, 600, this is ongoing even with the protests and complains from parents. No receipts upto now are being issued to the students,” he said.

He affirmed that her basic interests, key to herself are harnessing funds and by all means. The canteen has virtually been personalized and seems to be the key area of her dark operations.
“With her half-wit of a Girl called Cedella, Madam is reaping all aspects of the school financially. These issues were raised in the earlier communicated letter of complains but no action has been taken since then.
“We urge these issues independently and thoroughly investigated by EACC, ministry of education officials or government auditors to unravel the rot at St Mary’s Mumias Girls,” he said.
Mungoro emphasized that the Principal demands for Nill balances as early as week 2 of every term’ yet: suppliers have not been paid and are even up in arms.
He highlights that most basic provisions for the school are wanting, majority parents are even wondering whether this is the normalcy of a school.
She has held two charity collections in which more than Sh2.5 million was collected from parents, no accountability has ever been done.
The very students are being sent home for the very fees. The school experienced in the resent past one of the greatest school heists, in the year 2018, the bursar then stole a whooping Sh20 million, the cases are still in court.
Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa assured parents of our next project as the MultiPurpose Hall.
This should take precedence instead what we are seeing. According to parents, the Amukwachi Dormitory is completed. No money, should be spend anyhowly in a manner only one person dims fit for her belly.
“The principal told us during Annual General Meeting to raise Sh14 million towards this same dormitory that the Ministry of Education finances, this is day light robbery!,” he voiced.
Parents who were stationed strategically proposed and seconded. Is this how to run a school?
“The Finance Bill” as She proudly puts it was passed in very crude way. This is when she raised the fees by designing the unlawful extra levies.
“While other parents were still in discussion in class, the F1 parents hurriedly and innocently rubberstamped what is now biting us. There was no parent participation at all,” he lamented.
ACADEMICS
The performance of St.Marys is going to the dogs! Buchichi is clueless of what is going on in her own environment.
“The performance is wanting. The discipline is down. The teachers are demoralized. The funds the BOM sets aside for motivation of teacher are shamelessely swallowed by our “Good mama,” he lamented.
He continued, “There seem to be a deliberate intenton to STEAL EXAMS this year. The sanctity and purity of exams is what has held us in high esteem. The girls tell us as parents that 70% of the questions they are doing this time are coming in exams,”.
The song so far is atleast 50 straight As. When we look at the scores across the candidates to date, this is not consumerate.
“The students themselves inform us that she keeps telling them to not worry since she knows what to do. They are infact relaxed. Doing very little in terms of studies,” he said.
It is alleged that Some exams done are being treated in secrecy. No extra copies are allowed on producing the exams. This is from the girls themselves.
“There is a plan for her to ensure the hands high above are well oiled just to ensure these practices are a success. There seemingly is budgetary allocation for this,” he reacted.
The principal is clueless about anything academic going on. Reliable sources told us that she relies solely to a clique of teachers who run the school like its their personal kiosk.
“We are saddened that the students know that they only need to tell her about a teacher and things are done to the teacher,” he said.
Madam does not listen to any views. She is the Law. Harsh and unwelcoming and repulsive to us parents.
“You’ll rarely find her in the office. When you call her she is very repulsive,” he narrated.
OTHER ISSUES
There’s a girl called Cedellah, the “Projects Manager” she seems to be the main Manager of finances. It’s a strange way of affairs.
“This girl seemingly is the key swindling agent for Madam.. why a projects manager when we pay employed bursar, storekeeper and accounts clerks? During F1 admission, this Cedellah was the one receiving money for uniform. She introduced herself as Projects Manager of the school,” he stated.
The security of our girls is also wanting. On several occasions, there’s a man who is allegedly visits the girls in the night. The more madam assures us of their security, the more the security lapse. Its scary.
The Ministry better comes out to salvage our school. This is Mumias and we will go miles to protect this dear school from collapsing.
Recently, a section of students were unfairly suspended over elections, Some students were against prefects being forced onto them.
When they complained against it, the girls were suspended, is this not another case of “The Nyeri school” in the making, where students burnt others alive???.
Girls are being suspended so randomly over very trivial issues causing anxiety that is not necessary.
“The2024 AGM..This was a sham. No order. No minutes read. No Reports given to parents. We expected Finance and Academic reports. Non was given. Instead, what mattered was” Harambee” and parents paying money. Where is Buchichi taking all these monies?” The parent posed.
The Procurement Process MUST be audited/looked into. Things are a mess!.
The parent also decried the misuse of the Canteen and the bakery where they mentioned as the cash cow for the Principal and which needs urgent auditing to ascertain their viability.
Efforts to get her comment over the raised grave issues went unanswered.
