By Reuben Olita

Teachers Service Commission, Commissioner Timon Oyucho, has said the teaching fraternity needs to unite to make it a bigger movement.

In a key note address during the Teso Teachers Fun Day at St Joseph’s Kocholia Secondary School in Teso North Sub County at the weekend, Lawyer Oyucho said teachers should start thinking about themselves instead of being psycophants.

“I want the unity of teachers to become a bigger movement in Kenya,” he said, urging Dr. Anyang to extend the unity of teachers to Uganda by inviting them to the next edition of the event to enable teachers achieve self-determination.

” I am an astrick lawyer. I will defend the Iteso community if things go wrong, citing the international law that makes will make the teachers achieve direction it will take achieve its desired goals,” he said.

He added: ” We have not come here for politics but the direction the teaching movement will take I don’t know, but I am desirous of making it a bigger movement in the near future,” Oyucho said.

He went on: ” You can’t stop River Nile. If it becomes that giant river nature will dicate, it takes us to wherever we want to go, God willing.”

Mr. Oyucho said, despite losing in their itinerary in all three disciplines, Seme donated joy to Teso because they never lost, noting that they are the foundation and source of joy. It was also an opportunity to parade their team from the home of the greatest professor in Africa, Anyang Nyong’o, to meet with their colleagues

Oyucho said the Fun Day was not his idea, but he bumped into the idea from a Mr Ochola who was the brain of such a brilliant idea after attending his second edition of the event that marks bonding and enjoyment of teachers.

” When I held a similar event here, Anyang
said the purpose of the Teso Teachers Fun Day, which was attended by two of his colleagues who included Timon Oyucho and Sharon Kisire, said the event is not politically motivated, but it was meant to bond the teachers and coming together,” he said.

Commissioner Sharon Kisire said she will emulate Commissioner Oyucho and Dr. Anyang by taking the Fun Day extravaganza to the Rift, noting that the bonding refreshes teachers’ will and minds.

Assistant County Commissioner Kamolo Division Philip Omuga said they are working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education on exam, child, and personnel management.

On the reported case of Mpox in the sub county, Omuga urged residents to take care of themselves, noting that the disease is serious like Covid-19 which needs parents to sensitize their children on inherent dangers of contracting the pandemic.

Omuga said he doesn’t tolerate sexual gender based violence, adding that he outlawed disco matanga in his division with a teacher being one of the victims of this illegal practice.

He lauded Dr. Anyang for sponsoring the Fun Day in the Teso region, noting that the bonding has united teachers in Teso and Seme, which he said must be cascaded to other counties in Kenya

Dr. Anyang said the journey to introduce the Fun Day in Teso region started last year after a team of 35 teachers he picked travelled to Seme for the Commissioner Oyucho’s sponsored event, noting that they came back with high expectations, thus his decision to sponsor the first edition edition of Teso Teachers Fun Day.

Anyang said the purpose of the Teso Teachers Fun Day, which was attended by two of his colleagues who included Timon Oyucho and Sharon Kisire, is not politically motivated. He said the added that the attendance of Teso North Member of Parliament attested to this fact that I may be having an intention of challenging him in the next elections.

Dr. Anyang said the aim of the event was to bring the teachers together and bond them and release their stress, adding that life is cylic.

“You are the future of the teaching profession, and we are testimonies who are supposed to guide the community prosper, acquire wealth, and make our community grow,” Anyang said.

Commissioner Sharon Kisire said she will emulate Commissioner Oyucho and Dr. Anyang by taking the Fun Day extravaganza to the Rift, noting that the bonding refreshes teachers’ will and minds.

Teso North Member of Parliament Oku Kaunya urge the Kenya Government to look into the welfare of teachers and accord them respect over the role they play, which is crucial in society.

With former Azimio chairman John Mbandi, now as CS National Treasury the move has brought peace in the country, calling on the ministry of health declare Mpox anational disaster to save the exposed children from risks of contracting the pandemic.

Anyang for sponsoring the Fun Day in the Teso region, noting that the bonding has united teachers in Teso and Seme, which he said must be cascaded to other counties in Kenya.

TSC Western Regional Director Joseph Mugele said it was a real Fun day, noting that he might be tempted to do the same in his home area for the continuity of the same Fun day.

” As stakeholders, it was a great occasion for relaxation. Teachers have a lot of pressure due to work. Thank you to Dr. Anyang to give teachers to release stress,” he said.

As schools open for another term, Oyucho implored upon teachers to do their best, noting thar what goes around comes around, adding that what teachers do to learners will come their way.

He admitted that the Competence Based Curriculum, which is currently being implemented, is a good system but requires a lot of commitment on the side of teachers, parents and learners to make them productive and be like eagles. He wished KCPE and KCSE candidates the best of luck in this year’s national exams.
