Horizon News Reporter

A football tournament sponsored by a flamboyant Bungoma based businessman Joseph Lendrix Waswa will be launched on 28th May.

Speaking to Horizon News, Waswa assured players and fans that the launch will be bigger and better than the previous tournaments.

The postponement occured after the sponsor flew out of the country on an official business trip but he is back in the country.

“This is going to be an electrifying tournament, players are set for it while the sports fans will be treated to one of the best matches during the opener at Kipsis primary school in Cheptais Sub -County, Mt Elgon constituency,” said Waswa.

The winner will bag Sh1 million, the second team Sh500,000 while the third one will run away with Sh250,000 plus trophies.

The tournament has been running since late last year on runners up stages where several teams from Bungoma’s 9 constituencies participated with two teams each making it to the knock out stages.

The County tournament will kick off on 28th May while the County finals will take place on June four.

During the launch Kipsis Arrows will take on Sirisia 1, a visiting team.

Other teams which will play the same day include Naitiri Utd FC vs Nakalira FC at Naitiri primary school, Muji FC vs Matulo Bombers at Muji Primary, Kiyoro FC vs Compel Face at Kituni Primary school, FC Barcelona vs Umoja FC at Butondo Primary School ground.

Others are Nalondo FC vs Bgm Superstars at Nalondo Stadium, Enombela FC vs Nakoba FC at Maeni primary and Sirisia 2 vs Kanzu FC at TBD.

During the finals scheduled to be played at Panpaper Stadium in Webuye town, the winning team will take home a cool Sh700,000 while the second one will bag Sh500,000 and trophies.

“We took number one and two from every constituency now we are going for knock outs which will be played both at home and away,” said Waswa.

He added, “The tournament is meant to stop idleness among youths, help top flying teams scout for players and foster unity amongst the county residents,”.

Waswa confirmed the attendance of Stanley Okumbi who is a former Harambee Stars coach under 20 and Mohamed Hamisi the current one.

The scouts from all Kenya Premier League (KPL) teams will be attendance to scout for fresh talented players.

Officials of the Bungoma County Football Kenya Federation which is affiliated to CECAFA, CAF and FIFA have played part in the tournaments success.

Mr.Dennis Simiyu branch Chairman, Caleb Amwayi the branch secretary and the treasurer Manase Olekete are playing a critical role in the ongoing tournament.
