Speaking at County Commissioners Hall where she represented Governor Kenneth Lusaka in commemorating the International World Press Freedom Day, Mbatiany implored the media to uphold professionalism in the execution of the watchdog function.

“I implore the members of the press to work diligently without bias, intimidation, fear or favor while upholding the professionalism aspect,” she said.

The Deputy County boss lauded the media terming it as an intermediary between the government and the people as well as offering a platform for the public to directly participate in developmental matters.

In recognition of the great impact played by the media fraternity towards realization of Governor Lusaka’s development agenda, the government has absorbed a number of renowned journalists to the Governor’s Press Service and Media Liaison officer.

This year’s commemoration theme as defined by UNESCO is “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights.”

Advisor on Public Relations Sween Khayanga, Liason Media Relations Cheptai Namisi among others were present.
