The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) have appealed to the Supreme court to overturn it’s ruling allowing registration of Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Queer lobby groups.
In a Press release sent to newsrooms, the bishops criticized LGBTQ terming it as unconstitutional as it contradicts the basic value of Kenyans enshrined in the constitution.
Championing for Christian biblical teachings on man and woman relationships, the bishops portrayed Kenya as a God-fearing nation that will be poisoned by same sex institutions.
The Bishops further condemned the court’s ruling saying that it paved way for homosexuality that is unnatural.
” Fundamentally, registration of any association is based on what the association promotes. The aim of LGBTQ+ association is promotion of homosexual actions and normalizing same sex unions. We therefore note that this ruling sets platform for activism and pressure to further recognize same sex unions as acceptable and further infiltrate our processed of formations in our institutions,” said KCCB Chairman Archbishop Martin Kivuva.
He went ” We therefore remind the government of its constitutional responsibility and moral obligation to safeguard and protect the family from LGBTQ+ ideology and other threats. As a nation, we have a moral obligation to safeguard the young people from such erroneous ideas about sexuality and marriage,”
Kivuva reminded Kenyans that the Penal Code 1930 discriminates same sex acts as gross indecency and carnal knowledge against the order of nature, saying this should be upheld by the judiciary in defense of life and the family.
The bishops stressed on the issue of morality saying that is clearly being undermined by LGBTQ+ that brews evil in the society.
” If upheld, the ruling will lead to the breakdown of the moral fabric of our society. Normalizing this unions will make morality subjective yet morality is an objective aspect of the universe. Legitimization of homosexuality and especially through the decision of the judiciary will lead to tolerance of evil,” said Kivuva
He added : ” While acknowledging that our culture as Kenyans is founded on norms and values and beliefs which should be respected, we regret that the LGBTQ+ ideology is taking advantage of our people especially the individuals like the poor and the youth. Many of these individuals are recruited into the LGBTQ+ group with the promise of financial benefits,”
The custodians of the Catholic church urged Kenyans to stand firm against same sex relationships as they seek to destroy Christian dignity.
” We urge all Kenyans to be vigilant to all avenues the ideology of LGBTQ+ is being introduced to our schools and community,” they added.
They also called upon institutions to join the push for a review of the ruling in respect of religion and culture.
The supreme court ruling dated February 24 Gave the LGBTQ+ rights to register as a nongovernmental organization ending an 11-year battle by activists who sought official registration.
The court based the ruling in provision of section 27(4) of the constitution stating that the state shall not discriminate directly or indirectly against any person on any grounds including race, age, sex, pregnancy, Marital status, health status, ethnic or social origin,colour, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, dress, language or birth.
This controversial ruling has since been opposed by government officials and religious leaders across the country.
