Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has threatened to lead mass action upon government’s failure to lower cost of living within 14 days.
At Jeevanjee grounds, Raila turned the prayer meeting into a freedom cry, ordering Ruto to fulfill his 6 demands as a way of alleviating citizens’ sufferings.
Odinga termed Ruto’s move on withdrawal of subsidies on food and education as reckless and heartless in times that Kenya is experiencing drought.
” We complained about Rising costs of basic commodities such as sugar, maize flour, electricity and petrol for far too long. Issues of students dropping out of school due to lack of fees are also painful. Taxes are rising day by day. Subsidies must be restored and taxes must come down within 14 days or else we hold mass action ” said Raila.
On electoral transparency, Odinga advocated for a bipartisan task force to restructure the electoral body in exchange of the ongoing process of reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
” Electoral deceit must end. Servers must be opened and audited under auspices of a reputable firm or organization failure to which we shall lead people to restore their authority and voice ‘ he added
“You trample the poor, stealing their grain through taxes and unfair rent. Therefore, though you build beautiful stone houses, you will never live in them. Though you plant lush vineyards, you will never drink wine from them,” he added
