Lendrix Waswa’s County Football Tournament Launched

A renowned businessman cum philanthropist Joseph Lendrix Waswa has launched phase two of the county football tournament.

The sports activities is targeting youths in 7 constituencies during this holiday.

The football tournament was launched in Sirisia constituency last year and has seen Webuye East and West benefit from it.

The constituencies which will participate in the tournament that is set to end by February 12, 2023, include Mt Elgon, Kimilili, Kabuchai, Tongaren, Kanduyi and Bumula.

Addressing the press while launching the sporting activities on behalf of Lendrix, Matulo MCA Stephen Kaiser Simiyu alias Sonko stated that the main aim is to engage youths in fruitful ventures.

Simiyu stated that the tournament is also meant to scout for talented players and also engage youths from idleness.

“Despite that the main sponsor is not present, we agree with him that sports is one of the avenues of supporting youths realize their potential in the community, soccer is one of the well paying sports and they need to embrace it,” he said.

Simiyu called on youths to turn out in large numbers to participate and watch the games instead of participating in drug use.

“The tournament is meant to keep youths busy, ones they preoccupied they can’t engage in drug use and early marriages,” he said.

On his part, Benard Kikechi who is the ward leader averred that the tournament will change youths preoccupied. 

“We laud Lendrix for coming up with such a noble initiative, it is worthy copying so that we can engage our youths, this will help keep them busy to avoid unnecessary behaviour,” he said.

He added, “This not a political process but he is rather giving back to the society, politics if any will come at a later stage but at the moment, we are engaging youths,” he said.

Lendrix donated sports kits to over 100 teams which include pairs of playing uniforms, socks and balls. 

Present were Ken Wanyama, Isaiah Sakonyi, CBS Wamoto, Denice Maunda and Kanduyi constituency manager Rodgers Munyasia among others.
