BREAKING NEWS Raila: Ruto is not President Elect, results announced by Chebukati is null and void

“The 0.01 per cent translates to 142,000 votes which will make a significance difference in the final results. We therefore decline to take ownership of the said results because the aggregation exceeded the total of 100 per cent which casts doubt on the accuracy of the source of figures tallied,” said Ms Cherera

Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate has rejected the results of the presidential race as announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Raila while addressing his supporters at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) said IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati acted in disregard to the constitution and laws of Kenya in declaring Ruto as President Elect.

“Figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law. In our view there is neither a legally validated winner or a President Elect. Chebukati acted with gross impunity and could have plunged our country into chaos, our supporters just acted in restrain,” said Raila

He said they have rejected the results that were announced by the commission.

Raila said they are pursuing the legal channels to invalidate the announcement of Ruto as President Elect.

He commended the four IEBC commissioners who staged a protest and disowned the results announced by Chebukati.

Chebukati said DP Ruto garnered 7.17 million votes against Raila’s  6.94million votes.

Tour IEBC commissioners who disowned the results are Juliana Cherera (Vice Chairman), Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyang’aya and Irene Masit.

“That the aggregation of the percentages of the results scored by the four presidential who were on the ballot and presented to us have mathematical absurdity and defied logic,” said Ms Cherera, IEBC Vice Chair at Nairobi Serena Hotel

Cherera said in Chebukati’s results, Raila Odinga had 48.5 per cent, William Ruto 50.49 per cent, David Mwaure 0.27 per cent and George Wajackoya 0.44 per cent totaling to 100.01 per cent.

“The 0.01 per cent translates to 142,000 votes which will make a significance difference in the final results. We therefore decline to take ownership of the said results because the aggregation exceeded the total of 100 per cent which casts doubt on the accuracy of the source of figures tallied,” said Ms Cherera

She said Chebukati overruled them when they demanded to verify the results before being announced.

“When we demanded that we verify the result, the chair declined and insisted on declaring the result. The results declared did not indicate total number of registered voters, cast votes and rejected ballot if any,” saod Cherera

Cherera said the results announced did not indicate the total number of voters, votes cast and rejected votes which is a constitutional requirement that must be met first before any announcement is made.

She said the results announced did not have the total valid votes cast to support the percentages Chebukati announced that each of the candidates had scored.
