Raila Odinga’s ODM party has regained its influence in Kakamega County after scooping 9 out of the 12 parliamentary seats in the just concluded polls.
The party had lost influence in the county in the 2017 General Elections after scooping only 2 out of the 12 MP seats. Johnson Naicca (Mumias West) and Justus Kizito (Shinyalu) were the only seats the party won.
Lurambi MP Titus Khamala has retained his seat for the second term on an ODM ticket.
Provisional results showed Khamala ahead with 32,309 votes against his closet challenger Timothy Vikiru of NRP who trailed him with 9343 votes followed by Prof Stanley Khainga of ANC with 6163 votes.
In 2017, Khamala contested for the seat in the ANC party but defected to ODM party just four months to the August 9 polls.
Matungu MP Peter Oscar Nabulindo garnered 22,528 votes to retain his seat. He was elected to parliament after the death of area MP Justus Murunga on ANC party but defected to ODM.
Innocent Mugabe (ODM) garnered 17543 votes to win the Likuyani parliamentary seat. Mugabe, political novice defeated Dr Enock Kibunguchy (Ford K) who got 13382 votes, ending his 15-year reign as area MP.
Navakholo MP and National Assembly Chief Whip MP Emmanuel Wangwe has retained his seat after he garnered 23753 votes. Christopher Aseka (ODM ) retained his seat with 28,856 votes. He defeated Geoffrey Kanoti of ANC who got 4,700 votes. Tindi Mwale (ODM) also retained his seat with 23,898 votes.
The new MP is Fred Ikana (ANC). He was declared the Shinyalu MP elect after garnering 17543 votes after defeating former MP Silverse Anami (ODM) who got 11,243 votes while outgoing MP Justus Kizito (DAP-K) garnered 5318 votes.
Nabii Nabwera is the new Lugari MP.
