Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala has laughed off claims that he might be locked out of the August 2022 gubernatorial election due to weak academic credentials.

The outspoken senator is seeking to replace governor Wicliffe Oparanya via an ANC party ticket and doubles up as an ardent hit man in DP Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza outfit.

He has openly poked holes in allegations that he lacks a university degree and had scored a D grade at Friends School Kamusinga in the KCSE examination of 2003.

“The Commission for University Education (CUE), has fully certified and approved my academic credentials and henceforth advised the IEBC to clear me to contest in the August 2022 gubernatorial election, Kakamega county,” Malala posted on his official Facebook page on Friday.

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya renowned blogger Robert Alai had earlier on accused Malala for what he termed as low academic qualifications .

Alai went ahead and posted a KCSE certificate with grade D allegedly scored by senator Malala at Friends School Kamusinga in 2003.

However, the senator has since dismissed the allegations as mere propaganda orchestrated by his political nemesis to skew him politically.

The stalemate comes merely a week after the senator apologized to the public for giving demeaning remarks about the police at a political jamboree in Kwisero.

Apparently, he had noted that a person doesn’t require any academic qualifications to become a police since the job only entails carrying of a gun.

It is a statement that didn’t ogre well with most netizens and the senator was forced to withdraw it and apologize.

“My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media about my utterances on the police.I wish to categorically state that my remarks were taken totally out of context. Their importance to us can’t be overlooked. It is in light with this that I wish to withdraw my remarks and apologize to our discipline forces for the discomfort my remarks may have cost,” Malala noted.

But he has tightened his grip on the strength of his academic background and poured cold water on the allegations that he is an academic dwarf.

He went ahead and attached copies of his academic certificates on his social media pages for avoidance of doubt.

Besides, he also posted a validated approval letter from the Commission of University Education (CUE) recognizing his university education.

“Those who cherish in propaganda, feel ashamed . Attached herein are the true copies of my academic credentials,” he added in his Facebook post.

Malala is giving his first shot at the gubernatorial slot after serving as MCA for one term and senator for another term.

He is amongst the fast rising youngest politicians in Kenya at his mid 30s.

Malala is battling out with ODM’s Fernandez Barasa who enjoys the blessings of outgoing governor Wickliffe Oparanya and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The Kakamega county gubernatorial race has been termed by many political commentators as a battle beyond the county, a tussle between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza coalitions.
