Kakamega: Unrest As Malala Removes DP Ruto’s Photo In His Campaign Posters

By Paul Mukana

Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala has brewed unrest among his supporters after he removed DP Ruto’s photo in one of his campaign posters.

In the poster which was widely circulated on the socials, Malala only used the photos of ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi alongside Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula to advertise a political rally.

The ANC gubernatorial candidate had recently poured cold water on DP Ruto’s UDA party decision to field candidates in ANC’s strongholds.

Apparently, DP Ruto was not part of the Kenya Kwanza team that recently toured Kakamega county because he was engaged at the coast.

But Malala has openly pleaded with DP Ruto to persuade his western lieutenants to withdraw from elective posts in areas perceived to be ANC’s political bastion.

“You have asked us to deliver 70% of the votes in Western Kenya to get 30% of the government. But your UDA aspirants keep campaigning here in Kakamega,so how will we achieve your target,” Malala scoffed recently at a political jamboree.

Although the senator didn’t make any comments about the alleged campaign poster, political pundits have opined that it is a signal of a possible political fray inside the Kenya Kwanza due to zoning in Kakamega county.

“There’s need of us in Kenya Kwanza to work as a team.If we continue like this we stand to lose this county to Azimio,” Malala added.

The senator says that there will be no meaning of UDA and ANC parties coming together yet UDA is fielding candidates inside ANC’s home turf including Sabatia constituency which is home to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Malala insists that ANC has been culminated into a shrinking violet by DP Ruto’s UDA because UDA is running errands even inside the bedroom of ANC.

The tussle between ANC and UDA has been witnessed in Mumias East,Mumias West, Matungu ,Butere and Sabatia constituencies where both parties have candidates.

Horizon news has learned from reliable sources that efforts are underway by DP Ruto to try and calm down the ANC hit men of Kakamega over the zoning matrix.

In the meantime, a section of DP Ruto’s kitchen cabinet has dismissed claims that the campaign poster by senator Malala implied that he was ditching DP Ruto’s outfit.

“Foolish journalism.Malala has put out a poster indicating that this week he is hosting HE. Musalia Mudavadi and senator Moses Wetangula and then you have applied your warped thinking into it.You can’t be helped unless you wanted him to lie that he was hosting William Samoei Ruto,” Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen tweeted.

Murkomen was responding to an article in one of the dailies which hinted at a possible fallout between Malala and the DP as depicted in the poster.

According to Murkomen, the DP has been engaged with campaign duties and genuinely didn’t make it to Malala’s planned jamboree that is why Malala omitted his photo from the poster.

Malala is yet to clarify his reasons of designing the questionable campaign poster as he has jetted out of the country for a nine day overseas benchmarking tour.

Malala’s closest rivals in the Kakamega gubernatorial showdown are ODM’s Fernandez Barasa, KANU’s Suleiman Sumba and Samuel Omukoko of MDP.

Former senator Bonny Khalwale of UDA will be battling out with ODM’s Brian Lishenga and KANU’s Asha Ngaira in the senatorial tussle.

Thus, the battle between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza has been recalibrated across all platforms in Kakamega county.

DP Ruto played a notable role in persuading UDA’s Bonny Khalwale to step down for Malala in the gubernatorial contest and that was the genesis of the ANC – UDA pact.

It is a political equation that has created a political meltdown although DP Ruto’s allies have maintained that all is well.
