Lugari MP Ayub Savula has accused Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka for jeopardizing the process of picking the running mate for Azimio One Kenya’s presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga.
It’s the first time that Savula has publicly chewed bones with Kalonzo by vividly questioning his loyalty to Raila Odinga.
“The person called Kalonzo should stop giving us trouble in Azimio.Kalonzo, be loyal to Raila or we will go to Ukambani ourselves to campaign for Raila’s votes,”Savula said.
Hon.Savula urged Kalonzo to remain cool and professional so as to allow the selection committee to get ample time to select Raila’s running mate.
He was speaking at a campaign rally in Butere, Kakamega county where together with other leaders, he drummed up support for Azimio’s presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga.
We Luhyas, we have already decided it is baba (Raila),So don’t bring in pandemonium because we want Raila to be president,” Savula added.
Apparently,a 7 member panel chaired by former Kwanza MP Noah Wekesa was formed to aid in picking Raila’s running mate via an interview process.
But,the Wiper party leader has remained adamant and dismissed any possibility of him appearing before the panel for an interview.
In a recent political function, Kalonzo said;
“I want to tell Kenyans that I will not attend the said process .I find the whole thing demeaning to my person and will therefore distance myself from it,”.
But ,Savula who doubles up as the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) deputy party leader, slammed Kalonzo for failing to fully embrace loyalty to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
“And we plead with the church to pray for Kalonzo to stop being a watermelon and openly declare his loyalty and support for Raila Amollo Odinga,” Savula noted.
So far so good, around 8 candidates have been presented to the panel gearing up to deputize Raila in the August 9th race to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.
They include Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Peter Kenneth, KANU’S Gideon Moi among others.
The committee is set to commence interviewing the candidates on Monday 9th May but Kalonzo has maintained that he won’t participate in the process.
“We have arrived at modalities of having 3 candidates who will be forwarded to Raila for consideration.We will engage candidates on 9th and 19th May and we will conclude our business on 10th,” the panel’s chairperson Noah Wekesa told journalists on Sunday in Nairobi.
The running mate puzzle has created a stalemate inside Raila’s kitchen cabinet with each affiliate party demanding that their respective leaders should be recognized.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issued an ultimatum for both Raila Odinga and DP Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza coalition to announce their running mates before 16th May.
Thus, with less than 2 weeks remaining,it is virtually a test of time.
