There was a beehive of activities at Chimoroni, Chemuche ward, Malava constituency at the Weekend.
Events were brought to a stand still as senator Cleophas Malala officially introduced his female running mate to the Kabras community.
Dr.Beatrice Muganda Inyangala who also doubles up as a resident of the area was warmly received by hundreds of Malala’s supporters.
Malala is vying for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat on an ANC party ticket under the Kenya Kwanza umbrella.
“I have said that in my government, I will award a half men and a half women, when I appoint one man,I appoint one lady. That is why I have appointed my deputy governor from here in Kabras West, let her come and talk to you , you hear her voice.
Dr.Inyangala stepped to the podium as the mammoth crowd cheered her jubilantly.
It was indeed a political proliferation for the former United Nations employee.
“As you’ve heard incoming governor Malala talking, our government will bring to you more resources,we want to walk together with senator Khalwale, myself and governor Malala.I understand all your problems,” she said.
The soft spoken lady dismissed those claiming that she has lived abroad for long and doesn’t understand the chemistry of local netizens.
She vividly expressed herself in her local dialect and promised to help the locals to benefit from her leadership.
Malala is the first Kakamega county gubernatorial aspirant to appoint a female running mate.
He expressed confidence that Dr.Inyangala will tremendously aid him in delivering his election pledges to the people once they ascend to power.
“She’s a good mother,I have told her that those women who will be coming to visit her;she should be greeting them and giving them something,” Malala added.
Malala also accused governor Wickliffe Oparanya for only developing Butere sub county which is his home turf and ignoring other areas.
He promised to serve all subcounties equally if elected and outlined a number of benefits locals will get if they elect him.
“If you elect me as your governor,I will award tenders of road construction to needy youths and women from humble backgrounds so that you can also get money in your pockets,” he said.
Former Kakamega senator Dr.Bonny Khalwale was full of praises for Dr.Inyangala.
“This woman, I told her to leave her job at the United Nations to come and be my hit brigade in the gubernatorial race, infact I was the one who had appointed her to be my deputy governor.I thank Malala for listening to me , when I stepped down for him,he saw it better to pick this woman who I had earlier selected as my running mate,” Khalwale noted.
It will be Dr.Inyangala’s first shot at politics after quitting her diplomatic job at the United Nations.
Khalwale urged her to educate young women so that they can also flourish like herself.
“So, if you don’t love Malala, and you come from Kabras West here, just vote for Malala because he has taken Beatrice Inyangala;a vote for Malala is a vote for Beatrice Inyangala,” he said.
Khalwale also capitalized on the occasion to attack COTU boss Francis Atwoli and Kakamega governor Wickliffe Oparanya for trying to impose a candidate in the battle to succeed Oparanya.
Apparently, Malala’s closest rival is ODM’S Fernandez Barasa who political pundits have opined that he is Oparanya’s preferred choice.
Other leaders present at the occasion included Malava MP Malulu Injendi among others.
