It was a victorious Saturday afternoon for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Three goals from Cristiano Ronaldo ensured that the red devils collected 3 important points at the expense of Norwich City as they fight for a champions league slot next season.

United looked brilliant in the opening minutes and their efforts were rewarded in the 7th minute.

Anthony Elanga dispossessed Norwich’s Ben Gibson and spotted Ronaldo who wasted no time as he fired a terrific shot that got Tim Krull unaware.

Norwich had hardly recovered from the goal when Ronaldo scored again 25 minutes later.

This time round it was a superb header to an Alex Telles’ corner kick.

However, small mistakes by the United defence costed them dearly as Norwich constantly threatened to pull back a goal.

Teemu Pukki got off the hook in the 46th minute and he ran past the United center backs to produce a sterning assist to Kieran Dowell who scored Norwich’s first goal.

After the break, United’s weak defending costed them again when Pukki ran unmarked in the box and equalized for the visitors.

Pukki has now become the first Norwich player to score at least 10 goals in two different seasons.

Infact , at that time, Norwich were threatening to score the 3rd and winning goal.

It was until United substitituted Paul Pogba for Juan Mata when things commenced working in their favor.

The moment of the game came in the 76th minute when Ronaldo fired home a spectacular free kick to seal the victory for United.

It was Ronaldo’s 2nd consecutive hat trick at Old Trafford after he slotted another one against Tottenham barely a month ago.

It now implies that he has scored 50 club career hat tricks and 60 in total.

It takes the Portuguese’s EPL tally this season to 15 only behind Mohammed Salah and Son Heung Min.

The win recaptured United’s momentum back after their 1.0 loss to Everton last weekend.

United’s rivals Arsenal lost 1.0 at Southampton whilst Tottenham were also beaten 1.0 at home by Brighton.

It means United are now 5th level on points with Arsenal and 3 points behind 4th placed Spurs.

The race to finish 4th has heated up and United will take on Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday in a battle of Titans.

The loss to Man Utd was like a dagger to the hearts of Norwich fans because it send them close to the relegation axe.

They are still at the bottom of the table 7 points behind fourth bottom Everton with two games more and just 6 games remaining.

In other results, Brentford beat Watford 2.1.

In the meantime, Manchester City are still leading the table with 74 points just a point ahead of 2nd placed Liverpool .
