Wanyonyi Buteyo To Vie For Kibingei Ward MCA Seat On An Independent Ticket

A former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) director in Mbita Sub-County, Homabay County will be vying for Kibingei Ward MCA seat in Kimilili constituency, Bungoma County as an independent candidate.

Peter Wanyonyi Buteyo who officially resigned on February 9 as a requirement by the electoral body will be seeking to dislodge the current MCA Aggrey Mulongo.

Buteyi who hang his boots from the teaching professional says he chose to go it independent following what he termed as ‘confusion in parties.

“I sought for advice from my village coordinators, they all agreed that I vie as an independent candidate to avoid last minute rush following the confusion in parties,” he said.

Addressing his village coordinators in Kamusinga village yesterday, Buteyo explained that he is determined to be in the ballot box and ready to face his rivals during the August 9, polls.

“I will work with any governor that will be elected in August if I manage to win this seat, my work is to help the sitting governor, I chose an independent ticket because I don’t want to fight with party leaders in their parties,” he said.

Buteyo previously worked in the same capacity as the Tinderet Sub-County TSC director before he was transfered to Mbita Sub County.

He was the former Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka’s political advisor between 2013-2017.

Buteyo says he resigned as a government employee to venture into politics so that he can change the narrative that has been misused by the current and previous ward office holders.

“The experience I have gained as a political advisor convinces me that devolution in fact can work but the working of devolution indeed depends on a working assembly which needs professionals and competent people who have sacrificed careers,”.

The 54 year old is a graduate teacher with a bachelor’s degree from Moi university, Master’s degree in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies from University of Nairobi and Post Graduate Diploma in Trade Union training methodology ( ILO Training Centre, Turin).

He started his teaching career in 1993 where he was posted to Friends school Kamusinga, Luuya and Kibingei friends secondary schools.

“Before I started the Kenya Union of post primary education teachers (Kuppet) as the first secretary general for seven years, I was then taken to TSC headquarters and served for another seven years before I was picked by Lusaka as his political advisor for four years before I went back to TSC where I was deployed as the director,” he said.

Buteyo added, “I have never been accused of corruption or selling of jobs as a TSC director but am donating my time and accumulated experience in writing wrongs in Bungoma through representing Kibingei ward residents,” he stated.

He added that he is donating his expertise and experience as a teacher, a political advisor and a TSC director.

“We must redeem the year’s devolution as given to us, that is why I have an agenda for Kibingei ward, we must change the conversation and a leader who will change the lowest electoral unit called the ward,” he stated.
