UDA Suffers Major Set Back In Kabuchai As Ruto Pointsman Decamps To Jubilee

The Deputy President William Ruto presidency suffered a major set back in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma county after his pointman decamped back to Jubilee the ruling party under Azimio.

Jubilee and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) formed Azimio la Umoja whose Presidential candidate is Raila Amollo Odinga.

Evans Kakai vied in the Kabuchai constituency by-election last year on UDA party following the demise of the late Mp James Mukwe Lusweti.

Kakai has been a close ally for Ruto and his move is likely to complicate issues for him considering that getting somebody to drive his agenda in the cosmopolitan region is hard at the moment.

Kakai was defeated by the current Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga of Ford Kenya party led by Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula.

Speaking yesterday, Kakai stated that he decided to dump UDA and rejoin back Jubilee because democracy is found in it.

“I have consulted my soul and seen that there is light in Jubilee rather than UDA, that is why I have gone back where my heart belongs,” he said.

He explained that by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi joining forces with Ruto, it complicated the political matrix for him.

“It will be difficult for me to survive in UDA following the political pact that formed Kenya Kwanza Alliance, I will better find a political footing in Azimio where Jubilee party is a member,” said the politician.

UDA has fronted a Nairobi based businessman Zachariah Baraza for the gubernatorial seat and he will have to compete with the incumbent Wycliffe Wangamati of DAP-K and Senate speaker Ken Lusaka of Ford Kenya.
