Itoya Football Club trounced Nasewa from Matayos South Ward 4-1 to maintain 100 percent unbeaten record in the Busia County League that entered the third week at the weekend.
The team that is making its maiden participation in the County League, is sponsored by Busia businessman, Charles Wesonga who is the proprietor of Hotel Itoya located in Busia Town.
At the Busia County Stadium on Sunday, Itoya FC exhibited its prowess to overpower Nasewa with clinical finish in the match watched by a mammoth crowd.
Francis Chege put Itoya into the lead in the 34th minute before Giggs Ryan scored the second goal two minutes later to make it 2-0 at the break.
Itoya team manager, Nyamango Victor said the team which was formed in March, 2021 through local talent search is now growing with optimism of maintaining that unbeaten run to the end of the season.
“Our objective is to have the team play in the Kenya Premier League in the very near future. We have started by recruiting who are locally born and raised within Busia County. Next is to target progression our to Western Regional League, Division Two, Division One, National Super League and eventually KPL,” he said.
Nyamango noted that their fairy tale is attributed to support from the sponsor, players’ discipline and well managed training, assuring their fans of better things to come.
Mike Olembo revived Nasewa’s hopes of at least salvaging a draw with a consolation goal in the 79th minute but late strikes from Ryan in the 84th minute to give him a brace, and Vincent Kokoyo in the 87th minute sealed the visitors fate.
In the opening Group B match of the season at Busia County Stadium, Itoya beat Labour FC also from Matayos South 1-0. They won their second match 2-1 away to Young Muslims at Bujwanga Primary School play ground in Samia Sub County.
At Nambale AC primary school, hosts Nambale United and Namwitsula drew 1-1. Chesa Egesa had put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute before the hosts made it 1-1 through Derrick Otieno in the 64th minute.
Visiting Muungano beat Spider 1-0 at Bukati Primary School while hosts Labour FC were beaten 2-1 by visiting Young Muslims.
In Group A encounter played at Esidende Primary School, visiting Mungatsi and hosts Esidende drew 1-1. Joshua Oronda scored for Mungatsi in the 47th minute only for Peter Buluma to level the score five minutes later.
In conformity with most premier league clubs which are mandated to have junior teams, Esidende and Mungatsi paraded their junior teams in an exhibition match that ended 0-0.
It was stalemates in Group A with FC Machakusi and Kamuriai drew 0-0 at Machakusi Primary school, same to Kiriko and Chakol who also drew 0-0 at Kiriko primary school.
