The County Assembly of Busia has ammended its calendar to end on 8th June 2022, at 1430Hrs instead of 26th May, 2022 as earlier passed.
The motion to amend the calendar was moved by the Deputy Speaker Hon Lawrence Okaale Murunga (Ang’urai North Ward) and seconded by Hon Benard Papa (Malaba Central).
The Deputy Speaker stated that the law allows the house to amend its calendar to align with the stipulations and procedures of the Senate.
He emphasized that the Senate is the custodian of devolution and hence the county assembly should align its procedures with that of the Senate.
Hon Lawrence Okaale who is the vice-chairman of the House Business Committee stated that on 10th February, 2022 the house approved its calendar for the year 2021/2022 and was due to end on 26th May, 2022, thus paving way for its dissolution to allow members seek fresh mandate from the electorate ahead of August 9th, 2022.
The Senate amended its calendar to end on 16th June, 2022 thus mandating county assemblies to align their calendars to that of the Senate.
He also pointed out that there are a number of businesses in committees that are supposed to be completed and thus the committees need ample time to do proper work.
The county legislators unanimously passed the motion.
