Bungoma: Iteso Youths To Support Governor Candidate Who Will Take Care Of Their Interests

Youths from the Iteso community staying and working in Bungoma County have vowed to rally behind a governor candidate who will outline a vision that supports them with various opportunities.

Addressing the press in Bungoma town, youths under the umbrella of Bungoma Teso Residents (BTR) stated that they have been sidelined by previous leaders and it is time they be recognized because their votes are equally important in decision making.

Led by BTR Chairman and also a youth representative Geoffrey Etyang, the youths pointed out that they will rally behind a governor candidate who will include them in their administration once he or she ascends to power.

“We will ensure that we campaign a hundred percent for a gubernatorial candidate who has our interests at heart, we have been excluded for a long time and we are not happy with the exclusion from various government opportunities,” said Etyang.

He noted that they have registered in large numbers and their votes must count through securing employment in the county government or any other opportunities that will change their lives.

“There are various opportunities like appointments to various posts and getting tenders from the county governments, this will in turn help in changing our fortunes,” he stated.

Etyang further asked community elders to stop hawking youths to various candidates in exchange for handouts.

“As youths we can’t be hawked out by a section of elders who are out to get handouts, we are educated and we need sustainable opportunities that will secure our future, we have made our minds and will support a leader who has a vision for us,” said the youth representative.

So far Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has declared to recapture the seat he lost in 2017 to the current governor Wycliffe Wangamati.

Others Are a Nairobi based businessman Zachariah Baraza, former Communication Authority of Kenya CEO Francis Wangusi and Kibabii University lecturer Peter Khakina.
