Orengo Vows To Defend Sabina Amid Electoral Misconduct

As the old adage dictates, there can never be a permanent friends or enemies in politics, only interests.

It was quite a similar scenerio outside the IEBC headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday morning.

Siaya senator James Orengo was strongly defending Murang’a woman representative Sabina Chege amid her  alleged breach of election code of conduct.

‘I want to say this without fear of contradiction,if there is a person who is advocating for and promoting the handshake and desires to have one One Kenya and an indivisive Kenya,it is Hon.Sabina Chege”, Orengo told journalists.

It should be noted how the two we real political adversaries before the handshake.

Sabina Chege is accused of making a malicious statement during an Azimio rally in Vihiga county last week.

As a result, the IEBC had summoned her to appear before its electoral code of conduct committee.

Chege had claimed that the government rigged the 2017 elections for Uhuru and is planning to do the same for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

However, Chege together with the Azimio la Umoja lieutenants have maintained that the utterances were taken out of context.

It is a battle that has taken a catastrophic turn on the lawmaker’s role in the Azimio’s kitchen cabinet.

IEBC’s electoral code of conduct committee dismissed Orengo’s argument and declared that it will proceed with the hearing of the case next Tuesday.

It was pandemonium outside Anniversary Towers as police were forced to use teargas to disembark hundreds of Sabina’s supporters be chanting solidarity tunes.

Dozens of Azimio la Umoja’s politicians had accompanied the embattled Chege.

“She has been going all over the country speaking the language of peace and unity’, Orengo yelled.

According to Orengo, Chege’s purported utterances don’t amount to the allegations put before her.

The commission’s chairman Wafula Chebukati insisted that the outspoken Chege’e utterances violated the electoral code of conduct.

However, Chege’s legal team lead by Orengo and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo vowed to defend her fully.

“Those presentations are out of context. The full text of what she said has not formed the basis of the breach that IEBC is talking about and therefore we are going to mount a very big challenge against it”, Orengo explained.

Sabina Chege is the current Murang’a woman representative and has launched her Gubernatorial bid via an Azimio ticket.

She doubles up as an ardent brigade in the Raila’s campaign trail.

In case the IEBC’s electoral code of conduct committee will keep digging into be the matter, her political ambitions could land in jeopardy.
