Ojaamong Unveils County Magazine

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong today unveiled  the 228-page bumper magazine that outlines the county’s achievements since the onset of devolution in 2013.

The  ceremony at the Breeze Hotel marked several months of staff from the  Directorate of Communication  burning midnight oil to ensure the historic moment is realized.

Ojaamong who presided over the launch lauded communication officers for their  concerted efforts to ensure the publication of the magazine was actualized.

“This is an historic day with the unveiling of the magazine which outlines what the county government has been undertaking since the inception of devolution in 2013,” the Governor said.

He added, With the bumper magazine, county residents will have a sneak preview of what the County Government is doing across all 35 wards in the county.”

In health, the magazine outlines many achievements including the ultra-modern 60 bed maternity at the Busia County Referral Hospital, Accident and Emergency Unit, Mother and Child Specialized hospital at Alupe

Others are the ultra-modern building at Amukura Health Centre, renal unit and oxygen plant, CT scan at BCRH and construction and equipping of sub county hospitals, health centres and dispensaries across the county.

The Governor said Infrastructure and Energy  has recorded milestones with upgrading of roads in urban centres including Bumala town, Amerikwai, Adungosi, Amagoro, Kocholia, Funyula, Busia and Malaba border towns.Several box culverts have been constructed while many homes and streetlights have been installed.

He noted that the water department has strived to reduce distance to water points by drilling over 360 boreholes across the county with solarization of water pumping systems. It has  embraced hybrid water systems. It has also rehabilitated and equipped 210 boreholes with hand pumps.

The  County Government procured water drilling rig and water  bowsers. It has undertaken many irrigation projects, water pans, improvement of forest cover,  establishment of tree nurseries and rehabilitation of degraded landscapes.

Agriculture is another area with many milestones including  introduction of fish cage farming, fish hatchery, aquaculture parks, fish feeds, dairy heifer program, dairy parks, poultry parks construction of fish trans-shipment and auction centre and farm mechanization among others.

The Magazine  also gives  transformational journey that has seen the county become a business hub for hospitality, industry and cross border trade among others.

Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said it’s a proud moment for county residents, noting that the County Government had no infrastructure in 2013 but has recorded many milestones with over 250 ECDE classrooms, 140 culverts, over 2000 water points, employment of over 900 ECDE teachers among others.

Chief Officer ICT and Communication, Lydia Nabwire thanked the Governor for the goodwill he accorded the directorate and departments for availing information to enable it produce the magazine.

“The magazine also contains the Acts passed by the  County Assembly of Busia,” she said, admitting that the County Government has done much with the directorate embarking on radio talk shows and using other channels including mainstream media, social media platforms and documentary which is ongoing.
