Bungoma politics is poised for a tough duel after Kanduyi Mp Wafula Wamunyinyi declared to dislodge Senator Moses Wetang’ula from power, send him to political oblivion.
The two buddies turn foes will now take their war a notch higher after unsuccessful coup in Ford Kenya party.
Former Kanduyi Mp Alfred Khang’ati is poised to vie for the same post on DAP-K and will face several other aspirants in Ford Kenya, UDA and some on independent tickets.
Alfred Khang’ati, a former Kanduyi Mp between 2007 and 2013 is touted as the front runner to succeed Wamunyinyi who has announced to join the Senate after serving as an Mp since 1997.
Wamunyinyi who is the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader declared his interest before a mammoth crowd at Bungoma posta ground during an Azimio la Umoja rally.
“We want to make sure that we send Wetang’ula home, that’s why after a thorough consultations, DAP-K will field a senatorial candidate, do you need one?,” he posed a mid ululation from the crowd.
However a number of politicians who spoke later including ODM nominated senator Cheben, drummed up support for Wamunyinyi asking him to send Ford Kenya party leader as he vies for the senatorial seat.
Wamunyinyi, Tongaren Mp Eseli Simiyu and Governor Wangamati staged unsuccessful coup in Ford Kenya party which saw them decamp to DAP-K hence the party organ elevated them to the party leader and secretary general respectively.
The trio were elected on Ford Kenya in 2017 but they fell out after claiming that Wetang’ula was running the party as his own personal kiosk.
